DSTV's desperation showing?

You are aware that Multichoice services the entire continent right? MTV Base is mostly American stuff, Channel O is mixed. This Afro Music Channel seems to be aimed at the Ghana urban market...

Just change the channel, and stop moaning. You would think your remote was broken the way you are complaining...

Congratulations. Your cheque from Multichoice is on the way.

Yeah, I'm going to fork out +R600 a month just to get VH1 or MTV.... Not. Have you watched what is shown on Afro?
No I have not watched what's on the new channels. But Afro is not hiphop or R&B, you seem to have trouble distinguish between genres you don't understand.
And everyone is still waiting for you to explain "normal music".

My daughter is 4 so we watch nickoloedeon and there has not been a new episode of Spongebob for the last 2 months - she can even tell you the story when it starts and it is frustrating to see the same stuff all the time.

If it was not for the sport, I would give TopTV a chance.

You do realise switching isn't going to solve your repeat problems?

Wow, didn't know everyone was so interested in my choice of music. You seem to have difficulty in understanding me, so I'll type slowly for you. What I'm is saying, is that channels such as MTV and VH1 offer a pretty wide variety of music genres, and feature more of the music I would like to watch/listen to, whereas MTV Base, Channel O don't: Not unless you happen to like your Rap, R&B, Urban and such. I'm fully aware that one man's 'normal' is another man's poison, but none of the (video) music channels currently on offer hold any interest for me, and the addition of Afro just means, for me, yet another channel DStv seems to think will make my day, but doesn't.

Anything that doesn't involve rap crap, bling, and crotch-grabbing. Mind you, I know a few people who believe Copuntry & Western should be banned, so who knows...?

Then you should be quite good with Afro as it fits your definition of "normal".

Does anyone know why I (on DStv premium, SD though) can now see the HD channels, and a bunch of specialists channels, on my i-plate now? They were not there before. I can't watch the actualy contenet though.

I'd be happy to move over to TopTV if they had an HD model and dual channel recording.

You mean you get the message, somewhere along the lines of you're not authorised to view the channel/contact the help desk thing? There are quite a few new channel numbers that have appeared in the past week or so. Think I even saw one for Chinese news last night.

That's basically it. The 4 HD channles show up, but I can't view them. I also now see the Indian and Chineese channels at numbers around 500.

Always been showing on the HD PVR, not able to watch them though. So DSTV has released new channels? Really for a change they've been quiet about it, then again I've been watching Buffy and Angel.

I get that as well - it's like it always was, as in you can 'see' that channels 101/102/103/etc exist, but you can't access content because your subscription doesn't allow it. I just find it interesting that all of a sardine all these new channel numbers have appeared, and their advertising of the three new additions is accompanied by 'Watch this space!' blurbs. So it's possible new channels will be added to existing bouquets, but if the last three were anything to go by, don't hold your breath: Chinese news channels aren't going to excite me much.

MC: we moved all the specialist channels, as well as the Indian and Portuguese bouquets into the Premium bouquet. This helps customers who subscribe to those channels to seamlessly shift channels on the same TV grid, without having to change bouquets
.

Please elaborate...

Dude, do you have a chip on your shoulder or something holy crap

If I have a chip on my shoulder, perhaps its beacuse DStv put it there.

I am responding in a "right back at you style" really.

Clearly, you can see that the content that they are adding is aimed at black people. I feel sorry for whities who are clearly not being catered for. At the same time I can see that their approach towards the needs or what they think black people want is really tokenistic. Mzanzi Magic, KidsCo and Afro Music are clear examples.

Personally, I feel insulted by content providers, service providers or products that are targeted specifically at particular segments, like black, white, the rich or the poor. For this reason, I do not buy from shops like Geen & Richards or Pep and I do not buy The Citizen. I resent them.

Marketers should really think of people just as people and not as rich, poor, black, indian colored or white.

I was trying some of the channels that showed up around 500, I can watch BTV, a Dutch (I think) channel, and some Greek channel.
