Just keep in mind that R839 excludes your "extras", like explora and the fee DTSV catchup and recording. In total it is well over R1000 p/m for wash rinse repeat.
And not only that. When I still subscribed it was already such a pain to watch without a PVR. You simply HAD to have that otherwise it was like 1980 where you have to sit in front of the TV ready whenever the show you want to watch is broadcast "live". So the PVR is essential and that costs "extra" per month as well, even though it doesn't cost DStv a cent extra.
And with the PVR you naturally have to wait till it is broadcast for the program can be "downloaded" to your PVR. That was if it was not something which would be available on catch-up. And catch up only holds things for a limited period in any case.
With streaming services, you are more likely to get to watch a series. From Season 1 Episode 1 if you want to. Not so much with DStv if you are "late to the party".
It is just a schlepp.
And let's not get into the Video Resolution and Sound quality compared to other services.
They still have a captive market in people who lives in "rural areas" or who cannot afford uncapped and fast internet connections. But that segment will shrink with time and people are investing heavily into radio networks for internet to those areas too.
And then there is Openview too for those with a very limited budget.
Sorry DStv, the clock is ticking. If you only focus on getting maximum profit for shareholders then you are going to shoot yourself in the foot and will end up with nothing or too little subscribers to keep the business running.
But I'm afraid it will now be too little too late. I know most people which had DStv and gave it up has absolutely no intention of ever subscribing again. In fact, they have a deep dislike for the service (cost/ads/convenience/lock-in, etc).
