DStv's streaming plans for 2019

MultiChoice Group CEO Calvo Mawela has told MyBroadband that its DStv "streaming-only" service is still set to launch in 2019.

His statement followed MultiChoice Group listing on the JSE on 27 February 2019.

What is there to work on? You already have dstv now, you just need to make it accessible to non-satellite subscribers.

Granted - it will probably take you a decade to bring the price point down to an acceptable level...

While I personally think that R499pm is what 'DStv Now Premium' should cost, I'd be surprised if Multichoice were as cool as that. The price probably will be some bulls**t like R750.

That price would be for a sport only package I would guess.

I will be astonished if a sports-only package ever exists with Multichoice. Their own execs readily called DStv 'Supersport with sprinkles' when my step-dad had an opportunity to chat about it at a golf tournament.

“Where we see that our consumers are facing difficulty… we keep [prices] flat,” he said.
We are all facing difficulty, not just Premium subscribers. In fact it's those downgrading that are having it tough while most Premium subscribers can afford it. MC doesn't give a feck about us. This was purely a move to stop the bleeding.

Of course they wouldn't its crazy.

Eish, then it becomes more than traditional DSTV Premium if you factor Internet costs in it.

It all likelihood it's going to cost more than Compact. Considering most people downgrading are going for that package

Exactly, not sure why they have to get any additional rights when they already stream most of the DSTV channels through DSTV Now. As you say, all they have to do is make it possible to signup for DSTV Now directly.

... and change the way device registration works. Don't limit me on the number of devices I have registered and have a sliding scale (i.e R20 per slot ) allowing me to increase my simultaneous viewing , in addition to the 2 slots currently. So I want to buy 2 additional slots and how I utilise my 4 is up to me

Will this also come with a set top box that will change every one and a half years? Or how else are they going to replace that part of their income stream? :)

Give us sport only subscription please. All SS channels.

They won't do it in a million years. (Or they will charge your R750 just for sport).

And if DSTV does stream.. give us true HD and less buffering.

Huh? Internet streaming with a set top box?

You need a decoder for satellite signals, not for internet.

I also don't understand why don't just merge Showmax and DSTV Now. It seems silly to have 2 separate streaming platforms with presumably different development teams all working essentially on the same thing.
