DStv's streaming plans for 2019

They have DSTV now already they just need to improve the quality as at the moment it sucks for large TV viewing.

If you compare the dstv streaming app with other streaming service such as Netflix it sucks. I'n not referring to content but to function. I have tested it many times - while Netflix would stream flawlessly the DSTV now app would buffer more than it would stream. Same time, same link, same device. The only thing that is different is the app.

And then we do not even talk about function. The DSTV now app is like using MS DOS vs Win10 (Netflix). I also use other services such as Eurosport for ...sports and the same applies. While I stream flawless HD from Eurosport Player the DSTV app struggles to stream on medium without buffering.

So there is a LOT to work on. I would not pay ZAR1 for it in the state it is in now.
 
DSTV streaming is already there! The matter that they are currently considering is just how are they going to syphon huge chunks of money out of their clients without selling decoders.

With Showmax there is a +-20 second delay before the movie starts

How is live sport going to work? Any delay will be a problem.

Yeah it will be a problem if your neighbour sees the touchdown 20 seconds before you. :rolleyes: Really delays aren't the problem and you need a bit of a delay if you want to avoid buffering but then there needs to be a stable connection and not streaming 1mbps at one moment and then 100kbps the next.

DStv already has live streaming and they've already tested 4K quality. It will probably have a 30 sec delay like DStv Now currently has.
 
Dstv now through a mibox works great although there seems to be capacity issues Saturday afternoon when everyone watches sport.

That's why the current model works it's pricey to bring us sport. I saw a report that the Premier league broadcasting rights increased 70% over a three year period its madness.
