Could someone please explain to me what Dual Channel DDR2 is?
I would like to buy a new motherboard but I'm not sure if my RAM will work on it.
Thanks.
ok? on the box(or the wed site) it will tell you whether the mother board will support ddr2 or ddr(if it's ddr don't get it, they getting out dated so to speak) and then it will tell you ddr2 533, ddr2 677 and ddr2 800, which ever of these numbers you see it will support them unless it tells you other wise
It says DDR2 800 but I have DDR2 667. The motherboard I have at the moment supports DDR2 533, 667 and 800. Will the new one as well? or should i buy new ram?
If you are running your RAM in dual channel, the motherboard ups the memory bus from 64 bits to 128 bits, which means that in the time your PC took to write something to RAM in single channel, it can write 2 things to RAM or write one thing and read another in dual channel.
Dual channel gives you quite a performance increase because of that.
