Dual-Sim Capability & Special Import Mobiles Worth It?

Hi All,

I am wanting to get feedback on people's experiences with special imports? I am paying cash for a phone for the first time, and am a little nervous about a simple 6-12 month warranty.

I am looking at the Samsung A5 2017 Dual-Sim for around ZAR R5,000, which leads to my next question.

Is it worthwhile for me gearing my choice in phone around dual-sim capability as my thinking is that I could make use of the second sim for data specific networks and data packages, and then use the phone as a wifi hotspot for my business laptop?

Or would I be better off not worrying about it at all and rather just buying a standalone mini-router?

Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated

I got a dual sim in my p9 lite. Works the business.

Dual sim is great. You can choose which sim to dial with when making calls and which for data. Switching data to other sim is fast and easy (with reception problems).

Onto my second Xiaomi dual sim, this time a Mi A1 which can be imported to your door in under 3 weeks from Gearbest for R3k.

I'll never go back to a single sim device again.

Have a problem with Gearbest. Ordered and paid for a phone and priority shipping. Ten days later they tell me no stock, I must choose another. The replacement is $13.45 CHEAPER than the one I paid for. Still getting reminders to PAY the difference. Emails and communications to them remain unanswered

Just be careful about dual sim phones. When they first came out the phones had 2 sim slots and a dedicated SD card slot. Then there was a period when there was no dedicated SD slot, but rather a shared sim2/SD slot. Things seen to be turning around again and true dual sim and dedicated SD slot phones are coming back.

There are phones now with 6Gb/128Gb that could negate the need for a sd card depending on how you want to use the phone.
