Dual SIM solution revealed by MTN

MTN South Africa has launched the Dual Call 2 product that allows users to have two SIM cards linked to the same contract and share the same package benefits.

Awesome. Now when I go for a cycle I can take a siff phone and not have to worry. Same for big nights out :D

EDIT: perhaps I'll just put the R10/m towards cell insurance.

heaven knows what took them so long ! i would have thought an idea like this was a no brainer

Sounds like a case of rinse and repeat. This was fairly common in the days when cell phones and car phones were separate devices...

Yes. I thought this was common technology? I have 2 Sim cards or dual call.
What is different here?

Ppl have just forgotten about it, so they're "relaunching" it....

Like Telkom does with their aged technologies and puts up large adverts on the TV to show us how smart or "forward" looking they are, when in actual fact we are being sold yesterdays technology today.

Useful. Last time I had this with Vodacom I had to actively ensure I didn't have both active at the same time, otherwise I had a huge amount of SIM registration problems, so I dropped the idea. But now I can put one SIM in my phone and a second SIM in e.g. a tablet, use the first for calls and the second for internet browsing. No need to have to switch one device off first. This is perhaps something MTN should advertise more aggressively.

EDIT: At least I assume you can operate both devices at the same time.

just another way for MTN customers to get scamd.... I can see it now the option being enabled on peoples contracts without them knowing and attached to some shady persons sim card so they can using up the airtime.

A critical detail that is omitted is whether the dual sim is provided with two seperate numbers or if it is just a relaunch of the standard twin sim option.

In my opinion:

Twin sim = Same number, same package and same contract

Dual sim = 2 separate numbers

This is obviously different to the dual sim devices offered by companies such as connet-systems
where you can run two sim cards (from different providers if you wish) on one phone.

thats great
so together a normal sim we can get a microsim to use in the iphone 4 or the ipad
without cutting a buying an adaptor etc

On the other hand, if people are using separate data and calling contracts, why should they pay for them to be linked to the same number? MTN scores on admin and postage costs due to converged services. This should be free to encourage people to add SIMs/services to existing contracts.

do you get 1 number for both sims? Or is it 1 number for each sim?

Interesting ... anything like this VC or Cell C?

I have dual call and it is 2 diff numbers. The secondary sim does not have caller id and cannot send sms. Everything else works normally. They maybe just relaunching it with now a monthly fee as dual call does not have a monthly fee..

With VC you can get a Data SIM to use in a modem or other device, with the billing linked to your current Voice or Data Contract. All voice and video call capabilities is disabled on the Data SIM card.

Please note this is not applicable for Top-up contracts, which is really backwards:mad:

+1. That's actually a great idea, and will be really useful.
