Any other South Africans playing? Thought I'd promote it a little here, it's a fairly intriguing game.

So the game is like Space Engineers on a massive scale, with much finer voxel detail/possibilities. It seems to appeal mainly to the sort of crowd who like Eve Online or other "spreadsheet-ish" sort of complexity in a game. Big focus on industry, automation and also has a player driven economy. PvP isn't big yet but is expected to grow as players dig in more.

The launch has been problematic with servers often experiencing lag, disconnects, frequent reboots and long queues but when it works it's fun/interesting to play so people seem to be okay putting up with it for now. It's nice that NQ (The company) seem very active on their discord and they even resolve issues late on a Sunday evening. There's talk of giving the early beta users a free month due to the issues on launch week. It's new tech though so maybe to be expected, the entire game runs on a single shard universe which is quite ambitious.

Works out to around 7 dollars per month, so like half the price of WoW apparently. But for some reason it's a 3 month sub minimum (Not sure if this will change in future). The subscription model is necessary for this type of game though I think, the tech needed to run it is unique and will require constant upkeep along with continuous content/feature updates/development.

Recommended PC specs are fairly heavy, but it runs fine on my Radeon 5700 with big fps drop only in the market areas. I assume optimizations will come with future updates. Apparently it runs on AWS globally, I have no idea if that includes AWS South Africa but I don't notice any obvious latency issues at the moment. Oh and I wouldn't play this on any sort of metered connection.

I'm in an organization called Dragons Assembly run by a long time streamer, Markee Dragon, who you can find on Twitch/YouTube. You can get a small sub discount if you ask/follow instructions on his Twitch channel. So if you decide to give it a go I recommend joining an org and asking for guidance as the game is overwhelming at first. Not sure if there will be any South African community orgs like there is in Eve Online but would be interesting to know.

Is it a Star Citizen hopes and dreams killer? Well I'm not sure but it seems to have stolen some of that crowd as well. For more casual but interested gamers I would recommend waiting at least a month or so for stability before joining, but for the more competitive types getting in early and establishing yourself will be a big advantage.

Has anyone here tried it? I've gotten a 3 month sub through ign for like $4.99 but I just cannot log into the game itself. I know it is still in beta, but I'm failing to just log in. Game looks promising though.

Ok, the login problem was resolved. I'm use Telkom LTE for my interet, and have been having the APN on unrestricted for a long time, as it just works better for me. Today I changed the APN to internet and now I can log into dual universe without issue.
