I have had a dualview for quite a few years.

In Feb my decoder packed up and I was told I had to take it to the local dealer.

I had to pay and swop out my decoder.

On Saturday we had a power failure and when the decoder booted up it showed an error code on the decoder. I unplugged the decoder and left it.

The next morning I turn it on, it scans and connects! Joy all round.

Then later that day the power went down again and once again it does not boot up. Again I unplug it hoping it will reset by itself, no luck.

So this morning, I take the decoder to the local dealer who tells me I need to pay(again) and swop out the decoder. Apparently the software "crashed".

Also the warranty on the swop out unit is only three months! Two months out of warranty period.

When I asked to speak to senior tech he also informed me that they are unable to "re-install" the software and that I probably would have to take my unit to Randburg if I wanted this done.

So my question is, how is it possible that software could crash due to power failure? And obviously if they want the old unit it means that those are recycled and "swopped" out with faulty units.

Has anybody else had this and is there a way one could "flash" the unit without having to schlepp all the way to Randburg?

Could it maybe be a power supply issue. Maybe caused by a power surge.. Not sure about this just taking a wild guess.

Let me tell you, you cannot break is cisco router.

Dstv decoder is not a cisco router.

Dstv are made to work just just.

Dstv personnel dont know how to fix nothing.
I agree for the power supply.

Why do your power fail so much?

Yeh, these are so sensitive to tripping and power failure. I learnt my lesson and now pay decoder insurance as it always happens just out of the 3 month warranty.

Just a stab in the dark, but perhaps a "flash reset" will help?

"reset the decoder by pressing and releasing (menu & down arrow, on the front panel of the decoder) simultaneously.Your decoder will flash dl
•whiles dl is flashing, press the menu
•press up arrow
•press down arrow
•press standby button again
•the decoder will now show dE and start the download process

Aaah, so thats what these bastards are trying to get me to do!

How much is it?

And does it cover this type of sh@t?

Thanks for the tip but my decoder never goes into the dE mode.

It shows dl and the goes to bE1.
