Dunkirk has a 97 Metacritic score

I thought it was dum for a movie and the music sounded like something that belonged in an alien movie. I waited for a twist and the aliens coming down from the sky or from the deep waters.

Hacksaw Ridge was a great movie!

Good graphics.

Does it have a story to engage the mind, or is it 100 minutes of skiet, skop en donner special effects?

There's no skop en donner and minimal skieting.

It's not a gratuitous action movie and rather a realism movie focused on the events rather than the action.

Bit of a bloated pulp movie, with the usual horrors of war message creeping in.

Fails to capture the grandeur of the event.
Soldiers who were there were taken to a screening of the movie and said it was extremely realistic except they don't remember it being so loud.

Its overrated Oscar bait, good but overrated imo.

Sarcasm really ? Its what i learned about in History.
In the words of one critic
‘I wish I could enjoy it more if I didn’t know so much about it.'

Most movies are told from a single perspective or POV, you can't always tell everyone's POV.
Of course the tides had an effect, God didn't suspend the tides just because it was the British.
And while the UK had a massive navy, most of them couldn't get close enough to the beach because of the shallow sea bottom.
Sounds like this war historian is just a whiny brat.
Of course they played up the perspective of the little boats - that's what movies do... Play up a perspective.
But the audience is not stupid, they know that those little boats could not have moved 300,000 men.
We're not stupid, we knew there were other things going on in the background that were not shown in this movie.
You can't show everything in one movie.

ha ha ha My Gran who is 90 and pretty much lived through Dunkirk was so keen to watch the movie.

Her review went something like this "That was an embarrassment to the people who served in the war", "they didn't even show you how many men were stationed on the line keeping the Germans away, they just showed you a magic mountain that no one crossed", "the scale of how many people were on the beach was completely off they showed thousands instead of hundreds of thousands", "they didn't show that hundreds of the small ships got sunk by the germans and even though they saw the other ships getting shot they just carried on sailing" and lastly "Why didn't they hire any actors for this film they were all silent, I felt like I was back in the 40's watching silent films".

Coming from a lady who loved Saving private Ryan and Hacksaw Ridge I had to laugh when she ripped the movie apart.

I thought it was ok a deserves a solid 6/10.
