I has the free telkom internet installed today.

I eventually managed to setup the router as laid out in the install instructions. Basically add in user name and password and setup wireless network.

the network works great for about 10 minutes then the wifi network (SSID) disappears? The LAN via ethernet cables into the router work perfectly and this is how I am posting now.

I have tried refreshing firmware on the POS but still no luck with regards to wireless?

Any ideas?

Try changing the WiFi's channel to something else - like 2 channels away from the current one.

Secondly, if that router supports WPA2 with AES/TKIP encryption, I would strongly recommend that you use that instead of WEP/WPA.

My aunt has had endless issues with her Duoplus 300WR's wireless too, until I changed the channel on it. That router is a POS, which is why Telkom can just give it away for free.

I have the same modem, used to give me endless problems. The modem itself is not that bad, just the firmware. I loaded Routertech.org firmware on it and have not looked back.

The modem now no longer links to the internet. The led has turned red... No amount of resetting is helping

Can you still log into the web interface of the router? It could be that it is stuck on the bootloader. You can also try flashing the router with the program that came with the CD. Lastly don't take the modem to a Telkom shop, you need to phone in for them to remotely test the router from your house before they swap it out.

I am still waiting for a chance to phone telkom... such a mission because I am no where near a land line...
It is just strange for it to be telkoms line as it was working fine but buggered up when I was resetting the modem to try fix the wireless problem.

Switched off overnight and reset and loaded settings again this morning.... Wireless SSID works etc but the internet LED remains on. I am trying to get a chance to phone telkom.

Using the telkom CD running setup, It gets stuck on DSL/DNS communication (before even testing the internet)

Would updating the firmware as shown in routetech link possibly fix this problem... Doesnt seem to tough and makes it more stable...
That or get one of these

After the lastest reset... the router/modem is linking to the internet... Wireless just wont work
I am going to rather try update the firmware with the one on routertech,

Ok... So this seems to be quite comlplex and the readmes with the files dont exactly make it clear...

If anyone could help me figure out the procedure I would be hugely grateful.

I have the correct firmware file, but before logging on and using the web based firmware updater. I must first backup my led settings?

How do I go about doing this?

I apologise, I am just a super noob with networking and ADSL

Like I said the Routertech firmware is a lot better. Try connecting two pc's via LAN on the router and it keeps on rebooting after 30 seconds. The amount of free ram on the stock firmware was also something like 50kb causing mine to overheat. Wireless WPA also didn't work for me.

1) You need to register on the site to see the downloads in the Forum.
2) The Duoplus is a rebranded Aztec DSL605, look for that firmware.
3) Read the guide, there is a program called Router upgrade check which backup the router config, if something goes wrong you will need it. Don't skip this.
4) You can switch between firmware quite easily with the program Telkom provides, I flashed quite a few times and never had problems.
5) Getting into the bootloader will take a couple of resets as you need to get the timing right, I think it's 5 seconds since power on then run the program.

Sorry didn't see this post.

I did it a while back, so memory not that good. Don't worry about the LED settings, you set that last. Just make sure you make a backup first. Did you manage to download the firmware?

EDIT : Didn't read the post, see you got the firmware. You don't update via the web interface, it's a program that you run. You need to reboot the router, wait five seconds and then run the program. You will need to do this a couple of times to get the timing right.

I have the firmware for the "routertech-ar7wrd-1350A-pspboot-firmware-4ports-DATE.zip" as per this thread on mybb...

I will get hold of upgrade check and run it to backup the config.
I then use the web based program to flash with the new firmware...

what would I do from this point?
Get into the bootlogger??
Do I use the backups from Upgrade Check at any point??

Thanks a lot for this...

I phone telkoms technical support and eventually got through.... first got asked what is an ethernet cable then told that the problem lies at the exchange... they will send someone out! wtf

Ok I just checked it is the correct file. Make sure you run the backup, if not your wireless will not work if something goes wrong. Yes you can run the backup at any time to restore. You don't use the web page to upload the firmware, there is a program called PCTool on the website as well, which is what u will use. The bootloader is the first thing that runs when u turn on the modem, from there it runs the operating system. So basicly you turn off the modem, then on wait 5 seconds for the bootloader to load and then click retrieve IP address on PCTool. It takes some time to get the timing right, just reboot until you get it right. The program will then upload the firmware. The Led config you refered to earlier is a batch file in the firmware's zip file. The modem is SAR605ew.bat, this will configure the leds on the modem correctly.

So I cant get the backup to happen correctly using router upgrade check (running windows 7)
I reset the router... then provide the router address ie. 10.0.0.2 as an IP, the default login and password which is admin and set the ethernet ports to 4

I try to backup and it says cant connect to the router - check username and passord.

I really want to flash but am not keen to do so without the backup

Make sure all the options is correct. 4 Ethernet ports, Aztech 605ew Asian and correct ip address. Make sure you disable the firewall in Windows while doing this. It stays long on 1%. See if that works, else just proceed with the upgrade, I still have a backup of the wireless table if you get stuck. The Telkom CD has a program to revert back to the stock firmware if something goes wrong.

Just copy the following in a text file, the WLAN_EEPROMxx lines is what you need if something goes wrong.

Luckily the cd restore works. I couldn't get pctools to pic up the up properly. Readme says it looks for the router at 192.168.1.1 I then tried to update off the web based tool but it pretty much fails... I turn off the router, run pctools then I click acquire ip address every second from one to eight.....

At first the ip is 127.0.0.1 then around five seconds it changes to 10.0.0.3 (which is the ip the computer gets assigned)

I then restored from the cd

You must click it once, that's what I meant with getting the timing right, reboot and try again. If you have the time in the future I would suggest trying again. The firmware is worth it in my opinion.
