I remember being out on a sunset cruise in EAst London.
it was a nice Clear afternoon, but there was quite a bit of wind, and the sea was choppy and the swells were decent. but nothing scary.
we were on a 44 foot farrow cement yacht. the mast was 110 foot and the first stay was at 75 foot.
about an hour into the cruise, when we normally served cocktails to the passengers, the weather turned suddenly.
swells almost doubled within minutes.
we saw what was coming, so started heading back.
because of the wind coming off the cost for some unknown reason heading back was difficuilt, and the swells kept getting bigger and bigger.
that day I saw swells like never before.
we had times where we were between the swells and the top of the mast barely reached the top of the swells.
when you get to the top you felt like you were on top of the world, and people were really suffering. not just seasick but vertigo as well.
took us nearly 3 hours to get back to the harbour.
I saw the waves picking up and move the Dolos like they were made of cardboard.
the weird thing is, I was 6 years old. and I have this as a fond memory, there is no fear, I cant remember being scared at the time, but I think I should have been...
