Durban has lost the majority of its "blue flag" swimming beaches, the Mercury newspaper reported today.

The city has already lost four out of six flags, and one of the remaining two flags is likely to be pulled soon because of unacceptable faecal pollution readings.

Let me add that to the (NOT)Positive about SA Thread.

This is just sick and disgusting. When will the majority of our voting brain donors wake up and smell the crap being fed to them (in both a literal and figurative sense).

Next time im in durban i wont use the public toilets,il just do my business on the beach...

It is a pity the Vaal river does not run into the sea there, otherwise they would have noticed sooner.........

This is nothing new. At least on the south coast. From my old house you could actually see the sludge and off colour foam in the water. At river mouths there would be garbage, tyres and the stench . Often see people taking a piss. They don't bus people in to swim but to have a toilet stop :D

Where do you expect ppl to go if they need the toilet when the public toilets have become illegal shebeens and loose ciggarete vendors.

You have the wrong end of the stick.
I expect the guavamint to catch a wake up and

  1. Fix the sewage problems - and not deny they exist
  2. Ensure public places are safe
  3. Deal with crime

Why wasn't this raised at Polokwane? Imagine how much money the ANC will save if they move their next conference to South Beach, Durban? No toilets would be required, plus I'm sure they could all stay on the beach

And most of the **** is already there...

I expect "the people" to vote in competent leaders so they have decent public toilets. But they'll carry on voting for buffoons and pissing in the sea, pavement or where ever they find themselves with the urge. Then they wonder why they get cholera :o

Come on LancelotSA - do your job. Sort out those beaches.

Okay - I know it isn't your job but you seemed to be doing something positive about it.

Expect to see more and more of this happening throughout all of SA's remaining beautiful beaches in the not-too-distant future.

Everything is deterioating.

Hats off to that fool Sutcliffe ..... all those paid for funerals, budget cuts, etc .... proud work eh buddy. :(
