Polela says the investigation started long before the Minister of Sport, Fikile Mbalula, ordered a commission of inquiry into CSA's finances after the apparent misappropriation of some R4,7m bonuses paid out to CSA staff after the country's hosting of the 2009 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Majola received a bonus of R1,8m but never revealed it to CSA's executive council.
 
I'd liketo be enthusiastic but when i see the poverty around me i wonder if another sporting event is really what we need at this point in time.

Joburg hosted the 1999 All Africa Games. It was also awarded the 1934 Comnonwealth Games. They were moved to London, as SA wouldn't allow non-white athletes to compete.
 
I think you might be thinking of the 1998 Athletics World Cup at Johannesburg stadium, right next to Ellis Park.
 
Good thing it's going to speed up the gentrification of the CBD, parts of the city are really world class but go like two streets down it's rundown and filthy. It's also going to mean more major infrastructure upgrades and who knows if the right palms are greased even Durban's own version of the Gautrain

If you mean a Gautrain type of installation with tunnels and stuff, thats never going to happen in Durbs.. way way too costly given our soil conditions etc...

The CBD used to pretty much be a swamp, or very nearly a swamp....

You forgot about our "Durban Go" project.... which is only 9 months behind schedule (but you are from "CrimeTown" you should know what its like :sick: )

What on earth are SASCOC thinking? A Commonwealth Games in Durban in 2022? Are they mad? Have they lost their minds? Has some alien force messed with the fluid in their brains? – by Mike Finch, Runner’s World Editor

Was it not evident at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 that the idea of a sporting event, where only former British colonies are invited to participate, is arguably one of the most outdated concepts in modern sport?

In Glasgow no one, except the competition-starved swimmers, even bothered turning up and the event cost the Scottish city an estimated R11.8-billion to host. Just think about that for a minute and remember that most of that money needed for Durban will come from already stretched public funds if the bill is anywhere near what it cost Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Games is a little like a local school track meet. It’s great for the parents, there’s some benefit to the hot dog sellers, but to the vast majority no one really cares.

Durban got the right to host the event because the Canadian city of Edmonton decided not to host the event, while New Zealand, already four-time hosts, have made it clear that they’re not sure how relevant or financially viable the Games are or will be.

Yet, barely months after the FIFA soccer scandal cast aspertions on how South Africa won the 2010 World Cup, we have decided that somehow Durban can pull of an event that no-one else even bothered to bid for.

I know exactly what its like, and yes it pisses me off that its behind schedule since I want it to hurry up and finish so that I can actually use it.

A fair amount of the delay though is not the fault of the municipality but due to taxi drivers and owners threatening the contractors.
