Yeah, the website is very out of date. Most of the activity these days happens on the wiki(http://wiki.dwc.za.net/) and Twitter(http://www.twitter.com/durbanwireless).
There has been a lot of growth in the network lately due to the hard work of a few dedicated people. Keeping a site up to date can be a real chore when there are more fun things to do like building out the network. With any luck someone will take up the mantle of website administrator. Maybe that person is you? Communities only function when everyone pitches in to help.
If you are really keen on joining the network, I would suggest climbing onto the roof of your house/building etc, and take a series of photos showing the horizon as you can see it. Then contact one of the core team members. With the help of the photos and your location, they should be able to work out if there is someone that you can connect to.
Since this is a community network, please be prepared to do the bulk of the work for your own installation. There are many members who will be willing to help, but they are not going to do everything for you. They don't get paid to run the network, it is done for fun and the love of it.
