Ja, no... that is definitely wrong.

I started with the Lite Edition 2.6 about a year ago. I thought I just let it run on default. I was very happy cos the files it gave me ran on my MviX player and were pretty good rips. Then I bought 2.6 RETAIL. and then 2.8 RETAIL. was only $30 and I think I have got my money's worth over a few times (compared to the price of DVDs).

I'll have to play around with the settings tonight and see why you are ending up with such a weird combination.

Last time it took me so long to rip a DVD, I was using a Celeron 133 with 128mb of RAM :-O

exactly, so I must have some settings all whacked because a dual core with 2gb of RAM shouldn't be this slow.

Hang on lemme check ......................... yep, just as I thought .......... I still have no fsckin idea what that even is, lol :o:D

DMA transfer mode basically allows your DVD drive to transfer info without requiring CPU cycles. Without it, everything you transfer through your DVD and hard drives require CPU power.

so was it off or on? Cos with it off (in PIO mode) your DVD drive would be really really slow.

so how would I check on the other PC if it's on or off and how do I put it on if it is off?

(don't wanna go all the way there now and check :o)

right, saved all that info ........ but ....... if you have an ISO on the HDD, what difference does having the DVD Drive on DMA or not?

DMA transfer makes a big difference across ALL your drives. Even just one. Without it, the CPU has to stop what it is doing and handle the transfer, then goes back to the compression and re-encoding. With DMA transfer, the CPU can get on with the processing and not worry about the read/write cycles.

It will also speed up the creation of the ISO file in the first place ;)
