Hey, does anyone know of software that i can use to rip DVD to DIVx/MKV, similar to the movies that are downloadable?

I've used Handbrake to convert DVD to MKV before. It however doesnt support DivX/XviD nor the AVI container format. Works great though for MKV and x264

and also, another thing, does this take the main movie and convert it into one video file, or will it be split with the chapters? for FairUse? and Handbrake?

With FairUse you have the option. eg: for movies I don't split, but when converting my sons dvd (eg gummy bears) it's nice to have each episode as one file.

Also try Divx Pro 7.2, It will convert to divx, divx 480p, 720p & 1080p or the super small mkv HD Plus. It will convert straight from the DVD Disc if it's not copy protected. Get anyDVD to decreypt before converting.

exactly what i wanted to hear.... and also, the size? im presuming you can decide on that aswell...

I have used Handbrake on Linux but when you convert it with Handbrake, then you cant play it on DVD players that support DivX....so now I use K9Copy with the XVID codec. Works like a bomb and it plays great on my al cheapo DVD player :-) K9Copy only for Linux though.
