Hi there folks, my dvd writes only at 1x speed Sad lol, you can imagine it takes a while to fill up a dvd, ive tried the properties in system, and the burning apps speed, nothing, keeps staying at 1x, any suggestions as to what the diagnoses could be including any speculation regarding the solution?

kindest regards

LJR.

What are you using to burn?

right-click My Computer, click Properties, click Advanced, click Device Manager. if it's an ATA dvd-writer, go to IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers. double click the one your dvd-writer is set to, and check if it is PIO. it should be DMA. PIO is incredibly slow and this happens when certain errors occur with ur dvd-writer, then windoze resets it to PIO(service packs are supposed to remove this limitation AFAIK). if it's PIO, just uninstall the device from this list and restart ur pc. it will re-detect upon restarting and it will be set to DMA. this happened to me a while back and it worked. but if you have SP1 or SP2, you shouldn't be getting this problem.

hi there, yes my windows has sp2. The computer really slows down to a crawl whenever i write something too, plus it still writes at 1x speed. :(

any ideas?

guess i called that wrong.

how long have you had it for? has it previously written at higher speeds using the same media?
