Hi could anyone please help...

With my Gigabyte 6600GT I used a DVI to HDMI cable to connect my PC to my Sony Bravia KLV-32S310.
And for the audio I used a mini-pluggie to RCA cable to connect from my Soundblaster soundcard.
In the Sony's manual they say to use the HDMI2, because the HDMI2 has the L/R audio-in.

All of this worked perfect, until I got my Chaintec 8800GT.

Now for some reason I can't have video and audio at the same time.
If I disconnect the L/R audio-in, then I get Video.
And vice-versa if I disconnect the HDMI cable I get the audio.

What is the problem?
Is it the Sony HDMI input that is broken or is it the 8800GT DVI-out?

I tried to find a option on the Sony's menu to select any kind of audio input, but found nothing.
Is it not maybe the 8800GT that puts a audio signal on the DVI-out? I tried to find any options in the Nvidia control panel that sounds relevant, but found nothing.

Please help.

I don't think the 8800GT would output sound, and it seems as if it's the card, cause thats what you changed...

maybe its just a setting on your display input....?

I have not changed anything on the Sony's side since I got the new graphics card. I went through all the possible menu options, but I couldn't find anything.

DVI and HDMI are the same except that HDMI can also carry audio. So your graphics card won't output audio out the DVI port

Would it be worthwhile to re-install the 6600GT and see if the Sony's HDMI input is working correctly?
(I might as well reinstall Windows while I'm at it.) ;)

Probably not worthwhile. To understand your situation correctly: you have a 3.5mm-to-2-rca's cable that you are using to connect your sound card to the tv?

Correct about the rca cable.

It seems like when I connect the HDMI cable, the TV detects that there is a sound signal and ignores the audio inputs.

If all else fails I could connect the soundcard to my 5.1 surround sound system at least I would have sound.
Or I could just go the S-video route, but I would prefer to use the HDMI and the TV's speakers.

I get frustrated if I have to use five remotes to watch tv.

vs175.16 are the latest drivers from NVIDIA.com

sorry 175.19 I'm downloading it now.

Sorry to revive this thread. I am now having this same problem, and came across this thread while searching for a solution. I currently have my PC hooked up to my LCD TV via DVI->VGA cable for video and 3.5mm cable for audio. However, due to some drunken gaming sessions over my leave period, the 3.5 socket on the TV got damaged and now audio only gets played out the left speaker. So I gave the HDMI connection a try and ran into this problem.

I know it is the Nvidia drivers and the 8 and 9 series cards (I have a 9600GT). When I uninstall the Nvidia driver I get sound. It seems to be a common problem according to all the forums I've visited while searching for a solution. I have the latest driver 181.20, but still nothing. This problem has been around for more than a year, Why has Nvidia not fixed this?

I found a workaround here http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/showthread.php?p=285484, but, even though I followed all the steps, it's not working for me.

Has anyone found a solution for this?

Try the little spdif cable that one nowadays get with the VGA cards. I havn't installed it, but see it included with most cards i have installed recently. It connects the soundcard directly to the vga card, this way the hdmi cable will also carry sound. I Think the reason for the RCA cables working with older card and not with the newer, is that the TV is picking up the new cards ability to output audio through the HDMI, and thus trying to use this.

Use it.......don't use it. :)
