Some good news for those who want to use Telkom3g for remote access - it works.

I have tried vodacom3g, but it got rejected as you'll need to get an unrestricted APN and all that jazz.

So I had a shufty at my local telkom shop, got a 3g sim with extra airtime on.

Then, I configured a Netgear 3G/UMTS Mobile Broadband Wireless Router (MBR624GU) to connect via the Telkom 3G network.

Then I created a dynDNS.org hostname for this router, and added the dyndns hostname to the router's configuration.

Once the connection was established, I forwarded ports for FTP and SSH to a test PC - and was successful in connecting.

Monday next week we'll test the unit on site to see how it performs in the bundus. :D

Will report back then.

It should also be possible to use the 3G router/dongle with a normal PC instead of the Netgear router. ;)
