DynDNS.org and remote hosts

Some good news for those who want to use Telkom3g for remote access - it works.

I have tried vodacom3g, but it got rejected as you'll need to get an unrestricted APN and all that jazz.

So I had a shufty at my local telkom shop, got a 3g sim with extra airtime on.

Then, I configured a Netgear 3G/UMTS Mobile Broadband Wireless Router (MBR624GU) to connect via the Telkom 3G network.

Then I created a dynDNS.org hostname for this router, and added the dyndns hostname to the router's configuration.

Once the connection was established, I forwarded ports for FTP and SSH to a test PC - and was successful in connecting.

Monday next week we'll test the unit on site to see how it performs in the bundus.

It should also be possible to use the 3G router/dongle with a normal PC instead of the Netgear router.
