Hello
I have a Billion 5200S ADSL modem. I would like to access my machine from outside my network. Have tried Hamachi and various other solutions. Would like to try the DynDNS service built into my modem. It has a section to set up dynamic DNS. One service is available (seems to be hard coded) www.dyndns.org
I set up an account at www.dyndns.org (directs to www.dyndns.com). In my Billion modem I enter all the details it requires (Advanced setup > Dynamic DNS):
Active (tick in box)
Service Provider: WWW.DynDNS.ORG (this is only option in drop down box)
Host Name: This is the name of my chosen host at DynDNS
E-Mail Address: The one registered with DynDNS
User: User name used to log into DynDNS
Password: Password used to log into DynDNS
Enable Wildcard: unchecked
The way I understand this service (please correct me if I am wrong) is that whenever my external IP address from my ISP changes DynDNS.org will be automatically informed so that my hostname chosen at DynDNS always points to my home network. So even if the Billion modem cycles on and off during the occasional power cut
then the DynDNS.org hostname I chose still points to my network. Is that correct?
What other options/services are required else where within my modem settings that I need to set?
Many thanks in advance.
