E-toll rate revealed

didn't they recently fine the oil industry 10% of their income last year for price fixing? why don't they use that money to fix the roads? what happens to that money anyway? they come together and overcharge the public. then they get caught and the government fines them a lot. in the end, it works out like a sort of "extended tax" that we all get charged without knowing.

i say cosatu, num, etc. should go vandalise those e-troll things instead of civilian property.

I am not at all concerned about this.
My consolation is the absolute laziness and stubbornness of the general South African public.
THAT is what will cause the system to fail. :)
 
The government gazette relating to e-tolling in Gauteng says that tariffs for motorists with e-tags will be set at 30 cents per kilometre, according to a report in the Star newspaper on Friday.

Standard rates for those without e-tags are more than double this amount.

Quoting the gazette, The Star said users without e-tags who pay their toll fees within 30 days will be given a 60 percent discount.

A monthly cap on heavy vehicles has also been included.

Cars and motorbikes are capped at a maximum of R550 a month, class B (small heavy vehicles) at R1750 and class C (large heavy vehicles) at R3500.

It is unclear when e-tolling will begin.

If this gets the go ahead, unsecured lending will increase rapidly and a bubble burst will occur since people will be borrowing more to pay for this rubbish called etolls. Already people are not saving because they don't have enough disposable income to cover their living expenses. Already we paying taxes (which should be used for road upgrades but instead end up in Nkandla building elevators and useless bunkers), we pay fuel levies which end up in the hands of the lawyers because RAF is incompetent.

Costs of food will go up, inflation will spiral out of control as truckers will pass the costs to consumers.
I will not buy an etag!!!!

Thank god they completed all these roadworks before the Soccer World Cup.
Quality of life is infinately better.
 
Assuming the same cap applies to registered and non-registered users, doesn't the actual rate per km becomes irrelevant for the heavy users as they're just budgeting on collecting the cap amount?
 
They should also reveal how many cents (of the 30 cents) will go towards the toll collection(maintainace of gantries, IT and HR).

Yea.. 30c now.. and R30 next year. FU goverment...we are not dumb as your puppets...

Do they define what their requirement of "taxi" is?

As in, if I have someone travelling with me, and I charge them a fee (even if it is R50 a month, arbitrary example), do I qualify as a taxi?

I think everyone has realised that objecting via legal means is pointless.
The ANC have made up their minds that we are going to pay and now we just need to show them that we don't agree by not complying.
I'm not going to waste 5 minutes of my time when months of legal proceedings hasn't gotten through to these thick skulls.

For those that are going to drive and ignore here is a quick calculation:
The tariffs for "alternate users" (no-etag and not registered) are 3 times higher than e-tagged users.
If you travel between Menlyn and Buccleuch in a car every day you'll pay R2688 per month.

From Menlyn to Buccleuch:
Mossie 17.4
Pikoko 16.89
Flamingo 16.02
Sunbird 19.5

From Buccleuch to Menlyn:
Ihobe 19.5
Ivusi 16.02
Indlazi 16.89

Per day : R122.22
