I believe that we should really pay for the upgrading of our roads, but I disagree with the amount.
1. How did they manage to build these roads in the first place years ago when we had less road users and taxpayers?
2. Tolling is one thing, tolling the primary means of transport between what is essentially a metropolis without providing alternative roads (building new roads for tolling). GTFO
3. Government and whoever built these roads aren't going to refund me for the paint and windscreen damage from the damn rocks on these new tar roads, what a dumbass decision that was. Also, the quality of these upgrades suck.
4. There's just waaaay too many dodgy factors concerning the financing of this thing. Not to mention where the money is going, how much they're planning to make over the entire course of the tolling exercise etc. No thank you, I won't have anything to do with this ANC scheme.
5. I'm choosing not to pay because I'm gatvol of everything to do with government. I don't pay SABC, I don't pay traffic fines, I don't pay e-tag toll, I don't pay anything anymore if it's not being deducted from my salary before I get my cash. This place and its double standards can kiss my ass. If the majority party, the most financially corrupt one ever, can call me I'm a criminal without being held accountable I'll act like one.
6. Where's the money for the carbon tax on new vehicles? We all know it was just another money making scheme. They can use that to pay off these roads, or better yet, work on getting back a portion of the billions wasted on corruption.
7. If taxi's don't pay, I don't pay. Simple as that. I don't care about our "unique" African dilemma anymore. Most of the poor "previously disadvantaged" people can kiss my ass too, they're starting to drag me down the drain as well and this is where my charity stops. I don't lie awake at night feeling guilty, it's a waste of life.
8. We know that if this works out and government open up another means of making millions to feed their fat faces we're going to see toll roads all over the country, and this in what is essentially a 3rd world country.
9. I'm still pissed at the billions we had to dish out on the World Cup. I don't have the "feel good" sport or patriotic gene some people do. I see each and every cent of my tax money spent on those crippled white elephants as a massive insult to a country which should be focusing on solving REAL problems, and there's a metric phuckton of those. If we lumped those billions together with the money we're funneling towards Eskom so that we could import the skills and equipment needed to set up shop for building "green energy" solutions (propellers, solar infrastucture etc.) we could've started building our own solutions while making use of the crapload of willing but jobless labour we have sitting around smoking weed at the local shebeens to export products to Europe or whatever. None of which requires governments intervention, we just need them to manage and sign the subsidies to stimulate the process.
10. I'm tired of hearing about nationalization and the evils of capitalism and colonialism, but the moment the ANC needs to do anything remotely competent, or need more money, they turn to private overseas companies so that they than screw over the people who paid to build infrastructure in the first place. We're being sold back what we bought, with tons of interest and dirty hands in the jar, yet I'm supposed to justify this because "they're trying to help me get to work faster". Nice.
