If you assume that the average Pretoria to Johannesburger (or visa versa) goes between Atterbury and Rivonia on the N1 - that's R12 one-way between 6am and 7am. Now multiply that with 40 to get the total trips for work and back. That's R480, which equates to R450.
If I remember correctly there's about 300'000 people working and travelling across via car (according to figures from the Gautrain). That accounts for 37.5% of the total number of etags purchased (according to Scamral). Take into account the traffic that moves during the rest of the day and let's say drop it to 25%. This is still 42 times more than what Scamral is claiming.

R100 equates for around 350km of toll roads. How many people that frequent the highway, only does 350km a month on it?

However, what are to be done about this, here are the facts:

1. It has been erected.
2. Laws have been promulgated.
3. It has been implemented.
4. No political party could have stopped it.
5. Public pressure could not have stopped it.
6. Courts did not stop it.

The process is virtually unstoppable now and it will probably not be stopped.

The big question now is, looking at some posts by members on this forum, who will I support - paying e-tolls and getting an e-tag and saving costs or follow groups like some members on this forum attacking, cursing people who state facts (not even supporting e-tolls). I think I will rather get my e-tag then today and register.

The way to stop it is to bring it to its knees. Just like a government, it can be crushed by making it ungovernable. The cost of collection as well as the sheer admin of collection is our only hope of crushing this 'goliath'. We can win if we stick together, or we can fall divided.

Probably not, but it would be idiotic to support a group of people who keeps attacking you when you merely state a fact. If this is the group of people you need to rely on then I am out. I would rather do what is right for myself then, even if I know government is wrong than hang myself at the hands of a bunch of idiots.

Id be happy to support the toll, if i knew where the money was going and since they tolling why am i paying this in the fuel levy take that away -
They should stop with all the BS they trying to sell.What was today's story 80% of users will not spend more than R100 a month - BS - passing 1 toll gantry return will cost about R11 @ 20 work days thats R220 - so guess that person did worse then me at Maths!

What FACT is that, House? You mean the part where its been demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that this system is a cadre conspiracy that is fundamentally wasteful, immoral, unjustified, corrupt and unwanted to the very core.

So now you're going to cry in a little corner because many people out there don't like you telling them that their best form of recourse is to lie down and take it up the ass?

I'd be really worried of most people had your mindset, in fact, many do, which is one of the reasons it's so important to start waking up and realizing what democracy really means.

As for the so called "group of people you need to rely on" that somehow touched you on your studio, there is no need for a "group" mentality here, there's simply the collective action of making e-tolls as unlikely to succeed as possible.

Some interesting observations:
1) 150 000 visitors to News24 daily
2) No other poll has had more than 15 000 votes

What is more likely?

1) Maybe all of a sudden double as many people decides to cast their vote in an insignificant on-line poll?
2) That "someone high up" told the website admin to add a few zeroes to a number in a table on a database?...

Does anyone have scripts set up to monitor those polls? Oh, now that they read this they'll change their tactics to more organically add "votes".
