E-toll tariffs exaggerated by critics: minister

I don't know how they came to that 83% and 0.59%....

If you assume that the average Pretoria to Johannesburger (or visa versa) goes between Atterbury and Rivonia on the N1 - that's R12 one-way between 6am and 7am. Now multiply that with 40 to get the total trips for work and back. That's R480, which equates to R450.
If I remember correctly there's about 300'000 people working and travelling across via car (according to figures from the Gautrain). That accounts for 37.5% of the total number of etags purchased (according to Scamral). Take into account the traffic that moves during the rest of the day and let's say drop it to 25%. This is still 42 times more than what Scamral is claiming.

R100 equates for around 350km of toll roads. How many people that frequent the highway, only does 350km a month on it?

Try 2 cars in a household..so R900 per month AFTER TAX money or R10800 per year..oh and course that includes R1327 of VAT. and this is light vehicles only. There is no cap for goods vehicles and you will be paying those charges at the shop till.

The problem is not the tariffs!
The problem is the escalation from R6.8b to R17b resulting in excessive tariffs.
The problem is that e-toll is the most in-efficient collection system that could be implemented
The problem is the percentage of revenue that goes to Kapsch
The problem is that these were existing non-tolled roads

I have asked the same question, but I am not sure. The act does not specify that the cap is limited to registered users only, so still confused.

However, I said this in the beginning (where many were angry and called me scaremongering and trolling) and I will say it again.

There is nothing we can do about the e-Toll system. It has been implemented and users of these roads will have to pay up when using them. Government has something to their advantage - the law. No matter how unjust or bad the law, it still is the law and everyone will abide. People will be able to get around the law for only so long before it catches up.

If you are a daily user of toll roads and do not want to take back roads, the best thing to do is to register. Pay the fees due and you will save yourself a lot of money. Like, in your example, if your friend registered, he/she will only be paying R450 per month instead of R1200.

This is like Eksdom electricity tariff hikes the last couple of years. Start out "cheap" and then year later "*** en betaal net"
