E-tolls: the launch, the cost, the outcry

Hey DJ, where did you get the 7 year repayment figure from. I thought I saw on the website that the loan is for 25 years?

That's explained in the video. I checked their bond issuances and maturity dates...

Nice one. I think you might need to tone down the details & number crunching if you want it to go viral tbh.

We need the number crunching.. because its clear evidence that SANRAL are lying through their teeth.

The number crunching is necessary to show that I didn't simply suck the numbers out of thin air...

I understand that - I'm just saying it'll severely limit how far the video spreads.

That may be... but if 1 person watches it, and gets it.. and tells 10 friends... its still viral, but its just a means to spread the message.

I'm nowhere near proficient enough to turn that section into something more interactive. I wish someone could animate that section for me...

I agree with your assumptions and your reasoning... however...
Do your calculations take into account the non-eTag collections?

If I were playing "Devil's Advocate", I'd say that the some of the higher "penalty" fee for non-eTag users (which won't be capped), will eventually be collected and added to the mix. But I can' even begin to suggest assumptions or estimations to even begin getting figures to plug into a formula.

The initial enforcement of non-eTaged motorists could scare the greater public and drive (excuse the pun) more people to get eTags.

Good job though... it does expose some gaping holes in their model.
However, Sanral will turn around and say they've followed models which have been tried and tested in other parts of the world.

This looks at a 90% compliance rate based on data that Sanral have provided us with. Sanral gave us the breakdown of payments, so that's what I used. It shows that if they are being forthcoming about their payment split, that we require 29% year on year increases. Or they're lying. I have also calculated (not in the video) a flat average payment required from all motorists based on compliance rates - I posted these in the old E-Tolling thread as well...

Also there is no provision for maintenance which costs a motherload.
