Charity starts at home.
I have stop giving money to people/charities etc. Today's living cost is just too expensive... to dish out money to other people. Who looks after me...?

Why do people believe them on this? That cannot even get AARTO implemented correctly to stop you from getting your license disc, what makes you think they will be able to integrate, etolls, AARTO and E-natis to get this right? Please the only way this would get any chance of running right is if SARS ran it.

What some don't realise is that if Gauteng falls then nothing stops sanral form doing the same in C.T, Durbs, Bloem and wherever else they feel like it.
Their plans are for a national roll-out and for all national infrastructure upgrades to be funded like this...

even the municipalities have forgotten the reason we pay rates are for them to provide a service, eg. refuse,water,etc .... not just to fill their coffers .... seems this is a national gov prob as well ....
all they do is find new ways to get us to pay for the same thing ... wonder what they could do if they actually put that to doing a decent days work!!

It is illegal to withhold your license disc even for outstanding fines, so what makes you think it would be legal to withhold it for a civil debt?

The judges failure to recognize the constitutional and public interest implications in my view makes the entire judgment liable to be butchered by the appellate court. Remember Zuma vs NDPP? Frankly Bloemfontein is likely to vindicate OUTA although Johannesburg will still probably have the ultimate say.

Since when was the so called judicial review about how "efficient" SANRAL's public participation process was?
My impression was that OUTA's application was about whether SANRAL had sufficiently engaged with members of the public going back to 2007.
There is a big difference between the words efficient and sufficient, I suggest that the judge applies his mind to an English dictionary.
I think most people only realised that they were about to be financially raped by SANRAL when SANRAL finally publicised the per km rates on signposts along the freeways earlier this year.

Signposts would have been the most "efficient" way of ensuring that the public are informed and encouraged to participate in a consultation process.

Regardless of the costs/tenders/etc, the problem with not getting e-Tag is this:
1) The total you will be charged will be a lot more. Something like 3 times the amount IIRC from the last time they gave figures.
2) You will not have the R550 cap.
Add those two together and you could end up with a hefty amount owing. It's easy to say that you are not going to pay. What happens when they take you to court? Still not going to pay? Someone who could owe R550 per month for 2 months could be in the hole for R20k after the higher rates and without the cap. That's enough money for SANRAL to go after you with a big stick. If they prosecute a few people to set an "example" then what will you do? By then it will be too late. You will already owe a chunk of cash. There are a lot of big companies that will be paying their tolls. They can't afford to get involved so you will probably find that SANRAL gets a sizable percentage out of the starting block from these guys. My guess is that these big companies will make up somewhere between 20% and 40% of the total toll revenue (trucks, rental cars, company vehicles, delivery vehicles, etc).
Me, I am not going to take any chances. Call me a sell out or whatever you want but I am definitely not going to take that sort of chance.
