A friend receieved his Cell C 21mbit modem yesterday.

He plugs it in his XP laptop, it picks it up and he surfs. Everything works correctly.

However he received a new Windows 7 64 bit machine and when he plugs it in, it detects and connects for about a minute - before he has no throughput. It stays connected - but nothing happens.

Does anyone know if the 64 bit thing has something to do with it?
How about the black modem? I read somewhere they give issues ....

Sounds like you need to check the ECN setting problem
from cmd.exe
netsh int tcp show global

ECN Capability needs to read "disabled"

If it says "Enabled"
type in
netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

This, although, if it connects for a minute, that's not the same behaviour I had.

Anyway, after changing this setting it worked fine on my Win 7 64 bit.

Never had an issue on my 64bit Sony. Running smooth without any issues.

Detects - connects - no throughput - Like to put a 100 on it?:D:D

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers on a different usb port preferable the ones on the back of the PC.

Have Win 7 64 bit and from day 1 E1820 working with stock cell c dash.

Also don't have a problem with mine since I connected it using an extension to the back USB ports instead of the front.

Yeah, those things get hot, the front ports don't always seem to provide enough power !

I have the white modem, and its working perfectly on my 64 bit Ultimate laptop.

White & Black :p - works 100% on Win7 x64 & XP x64

Thanks - will try that earlier trick!

Although you have a laptop not desktop, try different USB ports on it and don't use a hub while testing.

Also, it installs about 6 drivers (for every port you plug into!) and you must WAIT until all of them have installed.

Seems a few people have that issue with 64 bit :/

What does this mean :

Ok , I found the source of the issue, somehow E1820 cannot resolve once another application or devices ( physical or virtual e.g. VMWARE player ) took Com port 8, eventhough it will initially default to Com port 7 and 9.

if remove the object that took Com Port 8 , it will install itself to Com Port 7, 9 and 10.

another someone from HuaWei verify this ?

the problem was resolve once I remove VMWARE player, it will be good and much appreciated if HuaWei can release a driver to resolve this as I still need to run VMWARE player on my laptop ...

happy to hear a 2nd opinion or correct me if I am wrong on the above diagnose :)

I use VMware player & have win7 64bit & have had no problems but let me see what happens if i start VMware & then plug in the stick...the other way around i've had no problems.

Confirmed here also - start Vmware then insert stick & connect = no throughput
With connection active or the stick plugged in & then Vmware started = no problems
I'm running 4.20 drivers so no differance there (Cell C originals are 4.17)

Windows Virtual PC - the problem doesn't happen

Dolby is your problem VMware player or you just read about it causing problems?
You can stop it causing the issue from the settings in the particular VM by going to "Edit virtual Machine settings" / "USB Controller" and unchecking "Automatically connect new USB Devices"
Then it doesn't cause the issue - makes sense because with that box checked the stick is connecting to the VM not to the Host yeah?

I don't even know what it is ;)

Just trying to get it to work on his system. He's got an issue and I've read about VMWare - can't think of anything else.

Do you have to install it afterwards? He literally collected his laptop a few days ago so hasn't installed anything other than what it came with
