ok, so i've emailed vodacom about a week ago with no reply.
i've phones the customer care and they weren't sure.

i've got a e220 which i use on my desktop, which is pretty much always connected to the internet... however, i want to be able to use my laptop while im in bed and my iphone while im watching tv etc.

i've had a look on the net and all i can find is routers with slots for hsdpa cards, not usb.

is there a way that i can just use a normal router to create an access point for my laptop/iphone?

There's a D-Link DIR-451 3G/HSDPA router discussed here that can use both PCMCIA and USB 3G/HSDPA cards.

Currently testing the 7402GX/E220 combo, and so far pretty impressed. Mainly testing ADSL to HSDPA failover, but it can be configured for HSDPA only (hardwired up or dial on demand).

Nice box.

Sounds like a Billion model number, did you get it from Nology?

Easiest thing is: Get a Linksys WRT54GL router for R500 and use CCproxy to share the connection. I have 2 laptops and an iPod Touch that work brilliantly with this setup.:D
