I've noticed ever since I got My E220, my PC has started hanging. Its running Win XP, P4 3.2GHZ, 512mb RAM, stock standard stuff. The E220 works like a dream on my Dell D620 and have not had any problems. However I get the following with the desktop:-

PC hangs randomly, most of the time when there is heavy internet usage (such as downloading a flash movie).
In some of the USB ports the PC hangs, and once I remove the E220 it recovers, however this does not sort out the random hanging.

Is this the E220? And if this is USB/BIOS problem, what is the best way to go about updating drivers etc (starting with figuring out what guts are in this PC without taking it apart firstly)

Any help/comment is appreciated.

ok.....

And how exactly would I go about updating the BIOS?

Aiiight

Got the lowdown, will tackle this beast of bios update thing this sunday (need to find a floppy disk first it seems)

Thanks, and hope it works

Sorry Vodacom3G

But we can all learn from this.

Pls see this thread.

There is a quick fix. It's a program (Defender5) running on your Laptop/Desktop.

edit: Ok I posted this a bit quick :o. Didn't read the entire post. However pls note that is you have Defender5 running it will cause the E220 to bomb and cause a "Blue Death" screen

I had the same problem with my notebook hanging while my E220 was connected. Turns out that my Norton AV was the cause. I've replaced it with AVG free and its 100%.

Thanks Pitbull. Valid point.

The problem with most PC's nowadays is that we have so little control over what the various applications does. I'm especially against these apps that hook themselves into the OS to intercept system calls and when they break something you've got no idea what's going on.

Sorted

Thanks guys, turns out the culprit wasn't the E220 after all.
Was doing system diagnostics to check out my manufacturer et al (to do the bios update) when I saw the CPU temperature at a scorching 90 degrees. My fan was clogged to the max. Opened up , cleaned up , meths n all. Got a mate to help. Sorted. No more hanging (yet....). Respect to the E220.

Problem solved within 9 threads not bad. 90% of all problems are solved by simple solutions. Put da hands in da pockets and watch da blinking lights. Do an eyeball first then fix what you see is really wrong. Overheating is a real nasty one. Well done.
