Hi.

I have a strange problem. I have a Dell 6500 running XP with a E270 USB modem. When I insert the E270 into the USB slot, XP goes through the "Found new harware...Hardware ready to use" procedure.

I can then see the USB device in File explorer. However about ten seconds later it disappears!

I can then also not find the modem that was apparently "ready to use" in the device manager.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Not sure if this will help but i have the exact same setup and had the exact same problem. I downloaded and installed the latest E270 software from the mtn website (using another PC). I went into device manager on my laptop and removed a couple of USB devices that seemed to be E270 related, restarted with the E270 unplugged, plugged it in and presto.

When it happens just go to device manager and remove the USB Mass storage device. It will re-install the other devices.

I have exactly the same problem that started after 21st Feb 2010, but my USB Modem is the E220. I coupled it to different laptops and PCs and the problem remains. I suspect that the firmware of the device must be updated but it seems impossible because the device does not connect to the laptop or PC. Is there somebody from MTN that can can help us solve the problem or point us to a link or somebody that will be able?

Yeehaw!

Thanks guys.

I basically reset the SIM ( not sure if this actually did something ) in the E270 and inserted the card. It went through the normal steps and I then went to the device manager and noticed a USB device with a yellow question mark against it. I uninstalled this and then windows went through the E270 initilization again. This time however the modem was picked up and I am cruising.

Best of all it seems to be working all the time now! Even after a couple of days. Phew!
