Hi guys,
Im pretty new at overclocking and when i tryied overclocking my e5200 i cant seem to go go over (268 * 12.5). I tryied increasing the core volts but nothing. Its like there's an fsb wall at 269, even if i reduce the mutiplier.

The specs..
Asus p5kpl/1600
E5200 presently at (264.9 * 12.5) @ 1.344V
Corsiar TwinXMS2 DDR2-800 @ 441.5 and 3:5
Coolermaster extreme power 550

Also there are only tow options for the fsb/dram ration, 3:5 and 4:5
Anyone knows how to bypass this, or trick the mobo to read 1:1???

perhaps your memory is holding you back, loosen the timings there. What are they currently at? I note its 800Mhz ram at 441.5, which is multiplied by two still - 883Mhz, maybe they're topping out.

From cpu-z its 5-5-5-15..
What does it mean to loosen the timing, wat effect does it have??

That's a pretty good overclock for the e5200. Or at least I think so.

Here's a thread with e5200 overclocks: http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/390358-e5200-overclocking-thread.html

Do note that the highest ones are not stable. It lasts just long enough to be CPU-Z certified.

You can look in the thread if you can find someone with similar specs to you and what they did. I don't know if this post will help you but it's better than nothing. :)

I've got my E5200 running at 265FSB max as well. Thats the max my motherboard allows. (It actually states "265 MAX" in the BIOS) I know the chip can go further. With some software that came with the motherboard I can get the FSB up to 292 stable but it needs to be overclocked every time I reboot which sucks so I just stick to 265FSB, i.e. 3.31Ghz.

I've done a lot of research on how to overclock the E5200 further. There are two ways:

1. Some motherboards have a setting in BIOS which you can change to when using a 1333FSB CPU. So you just got to change to that setting and downclock a bit. With some other motherboards you need to change the jumper settings.

2. There's also a BSEL mod you can do to the chip which tricks the motherboard into thinking you've got a 1333FSB CPU.

It could be that you are not down stepping your memory divider. If you have say DDR II 800 Memory, change it to 667 in your BIOS and see if that helps.

I have the same board and an E7400. Stock it's at 2.8Ghz, I overclocked it to 3.5Ghz. That's without increasing the voltage and using the stock cooler. I COULD go further than that by increasing the voltage and getting an aftermarket cooler, but currently I don't have cash for that.

I oced my mate's e5200 on a msi g31 board to 3.33ghz...on stock volts. Multiplier 10 and fsb 333, he used ddr2-667 ram so ratio stayed 1:1.
I dunno, think you can push it harder...

Yeah usually happens when you multitask and with opera Mini's delay in refreshing :D

Anyways, ratio of 3:5 sounds a bit off, is there an option to change the ratio?

all i get is ddr2: auto, 667, 800..???

Don't worry about ratios. What you gotta do is the following :

Set everything to stock voltages
Download CPU-Z
Run CPU-Z
Click the "memory" tab
Take note of DRAM Frequency. It should be 400.

When you overclock your CPU, by increasing the FSB you increasing your DRAM as well. So if you have for example, DDR II 800 memory, change in your bios to 667.

Just down step by 1.

When you load up CPU-Z again, your DRAM will be between 350-450. That is fine. Depending how far you push your FSB, if your DRAM is over 500, you might need to down clock it again. Just test and see. :)

Hope this helps.

I tried dat n got amaxof 3.4ghz. Well datz as far as d mobo+ram could take. Maybe if i change d mobo ill be able to go further ;)
