How many people in SA speak only Mandarin? This doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather they train every police officer in the Eastern Cape to speak English, Xhosa and Afrikaans. That would allow communication with 99% of the residents.

And how many speak ONLY English? You'll be surprised at the number. I agree, Afrikaans is much more spoken. On the other hand Afrikaans and English are the 2 languages I wished I never had to learn. Both treated the locals like animals. Actually, as much as I hate to say this, the British are/were the bigger evil. This is the only point where I agree with Mugabe. Concentration camps anyone?
This was largely due to colonial expansion which in turn dispossessed Xhosa and Khoikhoi people of their land and cattle among other things.
Should they not learn English first?
Eastern Cape cops to learn Mandarin
................. Will be invoiced by the Nkandla Academy of Advanced Study?

etienne_marais, can you please provide a cite that shows the whites in the Eastern Cape never had a chance to oppress the locals?
Because it is trivial to find sources that claim the opposite.

If you want to make revisionist history claims you need to back them up with facts.
