Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale, SAPS provincial spokesperson, confirmed that on Monday SAPS received a call that a suspicious looking device was noticed outside a shop at Eastgate Shopping Centre.

People were evacuated from the shop and nearby shops and members of the SAPS Bomb Disposal Unit were notified.

“The members of the bomb disposal unit found that it was an explosive device. The device was deactivated,” said Lt Col Mogale.

“Eastgate confirms that a suspicious object was found and following advice from the SAPS, the centre was evacuated. The object was removed from the centre to a secure outside location for controlled disposal. No one was injured.”

This statement was issued by Danielle Hood from Liberty following the controlled bomb deactivation. “The matter is now with the police for investigation,” said Ms Hood.

It was on Twitter, but it turns out the SAPS had it wrong, they thought it was Bedford Center, but they were actually supposed to be heading for Eastgate.
 
Anyway, seems like the details and the communication are up the Wazoo again. How not to handle a crisis.

Agh, this is riduculous, now they are saying there was also a bomb scare at Greenstone mall! :D

Yeah terrorism should be kept away from countries like ours i mean we just coming out of the deep end barely,whoever did this is seriously crazy to bring this **** to our country.

I really do hope the police will manage to find he people behind this. If this is indeed a group behind this bomb planting, they appear to be professional. Intelligence agencies never picked up on or infiltrated them.

With Christmas around the corner I would dread going to shopping centers with my family....
 
oh my gosh i remember in the 80's there was a bomb in some parking garage. i was walking home with my friend and we were wondering what all the fuss was about so decided to go take a look see. only to be given our marching orders quite promptly and told there is a bomb and we were to get the hell out of there. the tension in the city was so intense you could cut it with a knife it was hectic. my friend and got the heck out of there of course we didn't need to see whether a bomb was going to explode or whether the police were going find it, we valued our lives. they did find it and apparently it was some huge bomb of note.
