Easy Equities good or bad?

Thrive option?

Let me explain (or that is at least how I understand it).

With EE, they have a thrive option where they pre selected 50 ETF's (local and abroad).

With that, they dont charge broker commission at all (if you buy or sell)

Saying this, I have EFT's with FNB, with a monthly fee, and got a quote to sell (and its a crazy amount).

I want to move my things at FNB to something where I dont have a monthly ongoing fee (to start off with)

"We've selected 25 South African and 25 International ETFs that are most popular among the EasyEquities community. These form the Thrive50. From time to time we'll update our Thrive50 to stay in tune with our community trends "

So I assume the broker commission is the THRIVE part that one saves (but will confirm)

Does anyone have information how TAX deals with the USD based accounts as well?

By the looks of things, you will still pay capital gains tax locally if you sold instruments and made dosh. I don't understand the taxation on the dividends though - they definitely take off 15% for the IRS, but I'm not sure if we are taxed again on dividends when we submit our income tax.

The fees are so low already that they’d never get me to invest in this I didn’t want to invest in just to score on that fee.

If I happen to get a discount for stuff I buy anyway, then bonus.

Yeah I realise now I did look at this at some point and it quite honestly just seemed like a load of kak to lead to the lesser popular options.

I agree with some of the frustrations with Thrive. There are sometimes a lot of things that I am not keen on at all. Specifically buying their bundles - as I prefer investing in what I decide on. They don't seem to have limits of what you need to invest with most of the time, so I just invest a tiny bit to keep my status.

My biggest irk was having to use that MrPHY site they built. While it has its place, it's not really my cup of tea. I kept what I had in there for a month, then sold and reinvested in the normal SA account.

Well yeah, to me it looks like thrive was made to push "their" agenda and make you think you winning. For me its not really a win, more like work to get something that is not worth the effort.

This. The fees are minimal. Not going to be dictated on what to buy.

PS. If they were to get a lot of people/high amounts to thrive by suggesting equities to them they can technically manipulate the market :p

Yes, you are taxed. But, because there's a double taxation agreement between South Africa and the USA, you can reclaim the 15%, assuming that what SARS charges is greater than 15%.

Did anyone else get an email about screwed up billing? The gist is that they credited some expenses to my account instead of debiting them. Also notice my monthly debit order got delayed.

Subbed. Opened an account today, and started playing around with the USD Demo account.

Does anyone know if you are able to reset the demo accounts at all or are they lifetime bound to your profile?

I'll admit I haven't done much digging on the matter.

I'm sure you can email them and ask and they'll happily reset it for you.

I've never seen an option to do it though and it makes me cry every time I see how well my fake money has done. ( +95% across the account).

I took the plunge today starting investing with them (after playing the Demo for 12 months).

Lets see how it goes
