Sho. I did open EE account when it started but hardly used it back then. This thread prompted me to look at it again and I am amazed. FNB to EE transfer for fund deposit was almost instantaneous and I could place instruction quickly as well. All within 5-7 minutes. Very very impressive.

Thanks for the answers, i am willing to look past the bad hellopeter reviews if it is as good as you guys say it is. My next question. Can one make real money with EE ?

If i invest say to start R500 can i double,tripple,quadruple it in a month or 2 ?
(Of course with luck and skill which i don't have starting out, so most likely i will lose it all, sooner rather than later)

Or is this just done a s a side "hobby" ?

Also just a day after i signed up with EE i got some sort of a tax registration email that i did not sign up for that says:

PAN allotment letter for your PAN application.

I did not sign up for this and don't even know what it is, should i be concerned ?

""Dear Sir/Madam,

The Income Tax Department takes pleasure in informing that the Permanent Account Number (PAN) allotted to you is:

xxxxxx.......

and the e-PAN is enclosedherewith.

The password for opening the PDF file is date of birth/incorporation in DDMMYYYY format."""""

I made R150 000 in the last year. Just pick the investments right!

Salary R800k pa (for the bank account)
Stock broking R1m initial deposit

Trust me, I didn't have a R1m initial deposit. There are other ways to get an account, but depends on your career etc.

I honestly don't think Investec's stock broking platform gives you anything extra over the likes of an ABSA other than that it is linked to your banking profile. You aren't missing out on anything in that regard.

I see... ok sounds good, very enticing, but it must be harder than it looks i'm sure... none the less for now i will stay positive...

My advice, get a budget a month, even with R500. And select a few shares/eft's, and just topup monthly.

Not all my shares are in the "green", so I took some knocks, but think long term !

This is a tough question and really it's not platform dependent. You can make or lose a lot of money with any platform. It's more to do with how good you are with picking stocks. We could say yes to you, and you could lose everything. We could say no, and you could make that money. It's the stock market, no one really knows how it goes (with some small exceptions - like top 1% exceptions).

I don't chase making triple my money in a month or two. For me, my EE account is mainly long term investments (the bulk of which consists of ETFs). I have dabbled in some good stock picks and been successful in some (Nvidia, AMD), and lost in others (MTN, Famous Brands). If I sold, I would both have lost a lot and made a lot. But generally my portfolio has grown about 15% in the last year or so.

If you are unsure what to do, just stick with an ETF, but understand that you won't be able to retire on that R500 investment any time soon.

Thank you Zerocool and Norris, helpful advice, it seems to be the case of the more money you invest the more money you could make (or lose !)
15% on 500 rand is not much but on a million it is much.

So bottom line for me, i need loads of money to make loads of cash...(or lose load of cash) lol...sigh... i guess not quitting the day job yet...

Which email is it coming from? This can't be from EE. PAN is not a south african term, we use tax reference number. Do you have tax number in other countries as part of FATCA declaration ? (Even then, I doubt if you will get such mail after EE registration)

Spam from India? Maybe coincidence that they received this a day after signing up to EE?

Welcome to the shitstorm that most of us are in. It is disheartening, even more so when you do the maths to work out when you'll reach that magic financial independence number. Once you get over all the stages of denial, it'll be easier. Just don't let the small gains distract you from the big picture.

I will keep this in mind thanks, i require someone which is successful which actions i could try and follow on EE before i will seriously go ahead with this, that will be the next mission to track someone down willing to help with this exact request.

I will be happy to pay commission per win to the one that could successfully assist.
