Easy Equities good or bad?

Haha yeah I can understand that, here I was sitting thinking to myself "Heck I'm not doing all that badly considering some huge losses"

Meanwhile, after counting all my deposits manually, it turns out I'm not even remotely close to doing well.

But at least I know now, gives me a better target to aim at.

You should keep track of what you deposit/withdraw yourself to see if you're doing good or *cough* bad. There are some issues with the site though and it looks like they hired someone in school to do the math/logic for them. Just because you provide a budget platform doesn't mean you can't get the basics right. If you buy something today it counts it with yesterday's stocks and reports a daily gain/loss where there is none. It should be keeping a running total of your share prices to compare to instead of just taking yesterday's prices for what you have now.

Agree with Swa. Keep track on the side.
I have a spreadsheet where I track my base capital layout and trades. Once you sell something, then use the total returns to buy something new, on most of these systems, that return will now show as the new baseline cost - not providing a gauge of how well you have fared overall since placing the original cash investment.

I log all transactions in Google finance, imo the best way to track dividends, partial sales, announcements etc. The fact that EE allows export in Google finance compatible format makes it the obvious route to go, since you can import into Google finance. On top of that, if you're a Google Now user, you'll receive automatic updates on your share /watchlist performance on all the platforms where you're connected.
Bit of a problem that Google abandoned their android finance app, which forces me to still track all of it on Bloomberg as well for mobile purposes. If you ported from multiple platforms into EE like I did, well then your baseline cost is a problem if you don't know it yourself since it simply takes on what Computershare provides. If you had a automatic dividend reinvestment structure... Even worse, as it is added as shares and does not display as 'cost-free'.
Bottom line, track it manually/semi-automatically elsewhere since you never know when you'll move on to the next platform and have the same baseline cost vs real return issue elsewhere.

I don't know if you guys have ever used Google Sheets, but it has a built in Google Finance "link".

One of the formulas available would be something like GOOGLEFINANCE(JSE:SNV,"price") & it will give you the last 15min delayed price for the share. There are a few options available, PE, historical closing prices etc.

So I built a sheet with all costs etc and the current value linked to the G Finance values.

Likewise! Thanks for the tip. Will definitely investigate.

is there any way you can sell a certain number of shares instead of all of them on easy equities. for example you have 200 shares but you only want to sell 100 of them and keep the other 100.

EasyEquities works with money values rather than shares. So if you own 100 shares worth R500, you can sell R250 worth of shares instead of 50 shares.

When you click sell there is a value in the "Trade Value" box. Change it.

thanks man really appreciate it.

Just on the Google Finance topic - under the reports section, in the Transaction History dropdown, there is an option to download your transactions in a format that you can import into Google Finance as is.

You have to change the top dropdown values to the correct columns though and delete the value row. EE is still broken in that it will export all your transactions and not just the period you specified so watch out for duplicates. Then there's also the issue that EE exports the commission in rands where GF handles them as cents so you have to change or delete those values. It should actually export all your costs and not just their commission.

That explains quite a bit. Last time I imported the EE data all my values were wrong :/

Quick Question :
Why EE never sends you AGM proposed resolutions for companies you have shares in? FNB used to send me list of resolutions to vote on.
Ps: Not that I compare EE with FNB.

Weird - I get these a lot of the time with my EE shares :/

EE quoting Sibanye at R43.13 again. Real price is R41.60. Can't they keep a correct share price?

I'm more concerned about not receiving emails when buying or selling, which use to happen after each trade. Now I'm lucky if I get anything after 10 trades, if at all.

And here I am annoyed by getting too many mails from them especially the ones I receive when trading on my demo account.
