Hello.

Recently looking to buy something from Ebay that isn't available locally.

However, I see that Ebay has replaced the Global Shipping Program with Ebay International Shipping. Has anybody used this? How does it fare compared to GSP?

They usually add the fee in your Checkout. Not sure how it compares though, but you can get an idea by comparing past purchases to current.

Been ordering weekly things from ebay...

No issues! Some come direct to me, other via SAPO (and ofcourses extra taxes payable when received)

That's how it works for Global Shipping Program, they seem to have changed it for Ebay International Shipping.

I see. I suppose what I'm afraid of is it coming through SAPO and me having to wait months.

At most 8 weeks. If you cant source it locally, go ebay.

Maybe consider signing up for a free account with MyUS.com. Let them ship the parcel to your locker and then you ship it with either DHL, Fedex or UPS to South Africa. You can also pay your shipping and duties when the parcel is ready to ship. Then you just wait for delivery. Yes, it is more expensive, but at least it is fast and reliable. I too will not let any parcel of mine go through the Post Office.

No, not really. That is the only way to get your things delivered safely. But, there are risks with private couriers too, like robberies. I would rather take that risk though. Nonetheless, I do not know how eBay works now with their shipping to SA. Their old GSP program was way, way too slow for me in any event, with deliveries taking anywhere from 2-4 weeks, hence the reason I settled on MyUS the past 8 years.

DHL normally have two options for shipping. A lower fee, but then they ship it to SA and let SAPO do the delivery locally. Then there is their more expensive option. Here they bring it to SA and they deliver it themselves. I always make use of this option with them. You need to make sure with the seller which option they normally use. You could burn your fingers.

I learnt the hard way some years ago. Also bought at US$4k item on auction. They sent through DHL. Delivery took 19 months. But, I was lucky to have received my item. I tried fighting back then, but the item has already been shipped.

If you start with questions and stuff afterwards you are in for a problem.

You pay for the item and you pay for the shipping. No 2nd or 3rd options. No fancy questions as they dont respond.

You use what you paid for.

Jip, I have sent 2 sellers of a ED64 plus messages. Been a week now, no reply.

I can't wait for sellers to eventually get back to me. Especially on shipping. By that time another buyer has bought it.

So I see Ebay international shipping, pay the monies and hope I get my stuff.

Unless I misuse my managers generosity that lives there.

Zero risk! As in f-aff!

It also includes insurance.

Sadly we live in SA! And I seen the delays aint in SA! From my things I ordered, when it arrives at customs, 5 working days ... then I get it at the SAPO

So from the 8 week waiting period.... 1 week is in SA

Maybe you and I are living in two different South Africa's and also making use of two different SAPOs. Nonetheless, there is no way anything I purchase abroad comes through SAPO. That is that for me.

Clearly so ! So far ... things costing R40 000 .... no issue coming through the SAPO on my side ! With multiple orders.

It all starts with trust as the saying goes! And as I said, its insured as well. So you cant really lose

Problem for me, what I normally buy abroad, cannot be replaced. Although insurance will refund my purchase, problem is the item is unique and I will never get it again.

As I am saying ... start to trust people! It all starts with trust (as that is what you are paying for).

So if you are scared it cant be replaced, then dont buy it (as simple as that)

What? Trusting SAPO with my items? Get lost! We are past the point of trust. They are simply incapable of handling my shipments. Easy as that.

Or, how about I am doing thing now? I buy whatever I want and have it shipped by private courier. Within 3-5 working days, from the US, it is delivered at my house. This is trust. I pay more for it and it works for me.
