Edge reading data from other browsers without consent

Well that's a sophisticated browser, just automatically showing my websites. I think this is an excellent idea because it just works without me having to jump hoops as in
settings - import - data - from other browsers - are you sure - yes / no
Clever Microsoft.. Shows they are really getting their act together.

“We believe browser data belongs to the customer and they have the right to decide what they should do with it,” Microsoft told Windows Central.

“Like other browsers, Microsoft Edge offers people the opportunity to import data during setup.”
So the issue is that Microsoft does not ask for permission, it just goes ahead and reads customer data stored by other browsers, and then allows the customer to uncheck the import option.

It seems like a small issue but it gives rise to other questions, for example what stops Microsoft from transmitting the customer data (or metadata) it has read before the customer opts not to import?

Surely this unsolicited reading (or collection) of customer data stored by other browsers violates privacy laws/regulations, like the EU's GDPR.

I would love to know which apps are not using my personnel data!
I have no way of knowing what data is being sent / received on my Internet connection. So I just live with it
Not right, but there is basically nothing I do about it:crying:

I use Pi-hole for ad blocking and for privacy. It’s not going to solve all issues but it blocks multiple thousands of requests every day from all my devices. https://pi-hole.net/

You can be sure that they all collect data, besides we are not anywhere near the EU / USA but darkest Africa where I have yet to see any sign of law and order.
Murder rape riot pillage corruption robbery hijacking are the order of the day.. So I don't think a little matter of data use even enters the equation.

I have noticed often that when I have my phone near me and I chat about something with a friend, next time I go into Google it starts offering me takealot adverts trying to sell me that something..

Funny that.. How Google just knows..

Imo Google, Microsoft, other companies, your government, other governments all help themselves to your data and all calls are also recorded analyzed and dissected.. Law or no laws.

So just get used to it, its only going to get worse..
And always remember to switch the phone off when having sex because it is definitely videoing your every move.

Yes I have got rid of Google. Don't do twatter you tube apple or Facebook. Vpn, Onion.

I have only recently started using the new version Edge ( Chromium-based Edge).

So far, for me it has been a bit of a disaster. The Old MS Edge was in my opinion years ahead of this rubbish version.
There are plenty of things that are just not working in my opinion --- a long list of really serious screw-ups.

From problems with rendering to clashes of MS's own Apps, to security issues to a completely useless pdf file reader, the list goes on.

The App/mobile version only works on a very small selected number of devices, is NOT downward compatible with older versions of Android. The synch facility across devices is an absolute disaster as well.

There is a huge learning curve here to try and untangle all this crap. And the performance on Windows 10 Home is nothing short of terrible.

Someone should explain to Microsoft in terms the 'muricans understand the best.

You just had sex with a person without their consent, and now you're asking if they'd like to keep the baby or not, because it's their right.

I have been discussing the exact same thing with collueges. It's happening all the time.

I'm not sure I'm grasping the full extent of the drama here...

Could someone please interpret this for me?

Unencrypted browser data, visible throughout the machine to all applications running in my user context, is being presented to me in another browser.... and I'm supposed to have conniptions about this because MAH PRIVERSY..... right?

Because the phrase thpethal comes to mind....
