Eishkom Inverter setup dilemma

50% is the bare minimum to just keep some form of reasonable-ish cycles,the available Ah will drop then still
Given his inaccurate voltage readings earlier,likelihood of an accurate wattage usage without some direct measuring and the shortening span i'd wager it's gotten a beating a few times and it's cascading now.

It just takes once to do massive damage to the capacity
Oh yeah this, Lead acid batteries are very very fussy, if you just once drop it to 40% that could significantly cause issues.
 
It depends, usually drawn like light loads, just to survive load shedding, 100-150w usually...

Basically anytime Lead Acid type batteries goes below 100% crystals start forming. Most break up when you start charging. if you go bellow 50% it guarantees crystals to solidify and cause permanent damage.

or not getting fully charged which is possible if the inverter voltages are funny (or stage 4 loadshitting). Still, 2 years is a good innings.
 
Which lithium setup would you prefer?
Seems everyone is going for them litthies..
Atm, I can replace those two AGM with Gel, 200Ah for R10k, (secondhand deal, know a guy that ran with the batteries for 2 months, before going lithium)
Or I can spend the dosh for a 24V lithium setup, which will probably be the best setup...
 
 
@Lupus It's either the Hubble AM-4, and Pylontech. Looking at the PowerForum store, and datasheets, seems like that the US2000C is a 48v battery?
Probably go with the S-range, or the AM-4.
I can integrate with the batteries seperately, with CAN or RS-485...

I'm sure there was a 24v version but I might be mistaken, you could get 2 S120s if you can find them and put them into series.

This will circulate the acid and will tremendously increase the cycle life of your batteries.
So if this is the expert advice coming from their team moving possibly thousands of these kits, do you experts here disagree and to what degree? No snark intended.

Yes, this is bad advice. Don't do that. I think the "expert advice" is coming from a sales rep or something and are repeating the instruction from the manufacturer who wants to sell more stuff. Can you ask them why this needs to be done? Sure, exercise the battery once a month but only to 50% or less, this is good.
 
I have exactly the same 24V MUST trolley system with the AGM batteries - thus far mine is still going strong but I have never taken the batteries below 60% SOC. You have to monitor those AGM's and always make sure you set the cutoff voltage of the inverter before the batteries get to 50% SOC. Mine is set to cut the batteries at <12.4V per battery. The MUST inverter does have a charge cycle that caters to the Lithium batteries + built in MPPT so maybe save up a bit of dosh and get 2 Lithiums + 2 solar panels.
Which one do you have? Because this one says it has? Does Geewiz sell a different model?

That's a pretty good way to sell more batteries quickly, especially if it's the Mecer inverter which starts at 10%.
Not sure where they got that info from, as that is a definite way to kill batteries and they should be called out on that.

I wouldn't even do that on a lead acid battery, every cycle is important.
 
Floating for months is not good either.
That's actually how leads prefer it :), also Eskom will help you out anyway. Though you could just unplug the inverter and leave it idle for a month if you don't want to drain it.

:laugh: Yes, eskom will take care of this part for sure!

They say you need to cycle a bit once every 1 or 2 months just to get the juices inside circulating if there are no power failures.

Nope thanks to City Power that just made it faaaar worse, I had a few 1 to 4 hour power failures once a month, those poor batteries didn't last 6 months.
