The council will do it's bloody job,and get incompetant people fired.
You know that people are extremely angry out there as the power might only be restored at 5 tonite.

The cables are well over 40 years old and they keep trying to repair them

Water ingress into the cables resulting in some high resistance or something? The power network is the most neglected network, even Telkom takes better care of their network.

Ekurhuleni's infrastructure is falling apart.

I stay in Alberton. Our power was out for 16 hours this week Monday to Tuesday. When they restarted it tripped 5 times in a row. Tuesday night it went of another 3 times.

I have now ordered an UPS to protect the PCs.

Just another way the ANC is destroying South Africa.

I live in an area that has frequent power and water cuts due to "substation fault" and "cable theft".

Protesting and throwing stones will only get you so far. We need a regime change for anything real to happen.

Afternoon Cllr De Vos and residents.

Earlier around 13H00 the first three joints had been completed and the team were testing if the cable is healthy on both sides and then start with the other three joints. Work had since continued since then.

I am still optimistic it will be around 17h00. I have requested Divisional Head Mduduzi to be on site to monitor progress and give support to the workforce.

There will be a delayed restoration a termination failed at Parkrand substation during final testing, the revised estimated restoration is 22h00.

Teams are on the ground doing all they can to restore electricity

I get mad when load shedding goes into overtime so damn, I feel for you guys. :(

We don't get load shedding.

Regularly the power goes of and then you pray it comes on again. It is simply impossible to plan for it. Last year September I bought a generator as the inverter went (any way useless if power is of for longer than 4 hours), now I bought a UPS as it is happening more regularly and i have my PC and the work's PC at home. The UPS it to simply protect it from the unstable power supply.
 
If you think things are going to get better instead of worse, you need a reality check.

First, the smaller municipalities fell. Heilbron, Koppies, Putsonderwater. Fell, nonexistent, not functioning anymore, except as a front for salaries and looting.

Then, the medium-sized municipalities. Sedibeng, Govan Mbeki, Ladysmith etc. (some would say "nooit those still work hey you blerrie racist!" Not to any acceptable standfard they don't) Same story, merely existing to pay salaries to cadres, push through the odd tender and/or looting.

And now, the bigger muni's and metros are starting to get the sharts. Hang on, issa gonna be a wild ride. The money is finished, all stolen, and there's no turning back. Stores are empty, contractors are demanding cash upfront, vehicles without fuel.

Tragedy? Or successfully decolonized? You decide.

Sadly true. Some municipalities are also starting to fail at paying salaries. Some of the vbs ones went through a period where they couldn't pay salaries. I stay in one these employment agency ones and yes maintenance is a distant consideration. Sewage overflowing, electrical infrastructure in a shambles. They can't even manage billing or collections.
