Haven't noticed any timing pattern. I'll check it out when I hear it again.

When it happens, why not fire up the Activity Monitor to see what's happening behind the scenes. Might very well be a long-forgotten installed app, that is running some process that no longer functions properly?

Doesn't sound like a 'normal' OSX process at all, so more likely something 3rd-party, surely?

Try making a list of your non- Apple apps, then Googling each one in relation to: "issues with xyz and your current OS"....this may throw up something.

Just trashing an app may leave bits of the app behind, AppDelete or other similar are worth spending on. These leftovers can cause issues.

My Skype does something similar.

Thanks guys. Yep, spot on, it happened a few times this afternoon at irregular times, then I saw the suggestion about Skype, faffed with the settings and found that it's the notification sound when a user in your contents becomes available.

ANyone else having issues with the WIFI on enterprise networks? Keeps disconnecting and then once it has disconnected (I can see the network) It refuses to connect to it again. Every now and then it also pops up with a message saying "The network may have been compromised and as such it has to disconnect for 1 minute to try and sort it out"....

Really annoying. The wifi works fine on the same network in other parts of the premises...

What I know about networking could be written on the back of a matchbox.

But hey – my ramblings might trigger someone who actually knows what might be up.

My initial thought was to suggest you nuke the Wifi settings. I've been having intermittent wifi issues since Mavericks, on my work Exchange network – but it was mostly due to poor signal – but then it started getting really flaky. Eventually googled a bit, and wiped specific pref. files. OSX was forced to regenerate everything, and it's been running sweetly ever since.

However – yours is surely NOT similar. The fact that you're connecting ok, on the same network, in different parts of the premises, but not in others – coupled with that "compromised" message [try and take a screenshot of it next time] surely suggests some sort of an interference, in a particular spot? Possibly some other wifi device or something that's causing some arcane(?) OSX security feature to trigger?

Yours doesn't appear to be a common occurrence – did plenty of reading to sort out my issues – and have never come across something like you are describing. So think you'd need to get a bit more information, to allow for suggestions...

Maybe try and isolate where exactly it is happening, and see if anything else shows under Wifi, that wasn't there before??

Good luck!

I can't really see why the problem occurs, but I suspect it might be a driver problem. Try finding the Modem manufacturers original drivers and install them.

Worse OS Apple ever braught out, well maybe not because I totally skipped 10.9 so don't know how that was. It's clunky, it's buggy, it's slow, I expect of a Mac to just work, no hastles, no issues but since updating my iMac to El Crapiton it doesn't anymore. Imagine if Apple speds a entire year only working on software, leave the hardware as is for a full year it's good enough, then only spend all their time on software.

Something wrong with your installation then. I suggest a clean install.
