Worse OS Apple ever braught out, well maybe not because I totally skipped 10.9 so don't know how that was. It's clunky, it's buggy, it's slow, I expect of a Mac to just work, no hastles, no issues but since updating my iMac to El Crapiton it doesn't anymore. Imagine if Apple speds a entire year only working on software, leave the hardware as is for a full year it's good enough, then only spend all their time on software.

What iMac do you have - as in, which year model?

A clean install was never needed before when updating to a new OS, shouldn't be needed now, though I agree that it probably will improve things. I know people who has been running on the same drive for probably 5 years just updating not clean installing, and their systems have been rock solid up to 10.10.

What has been going wrong, specifically?

It's mostly just very slow, even hangs on me for a few seconds from time to time, Safari is terrible etc. For those asking it's a late 2013 iMac. I should probably do a clean install to see if it improves things, it's just such a shlep.

Could even be your hard drive failing. Would be good to check its SMART status, though it can sometimes be inaccurate.

I'm not sure of a good Mac app to check SMART.
