Elden Ring

The game is a phenomenon or something. I constantly find myself just running around taking in the amazing atmosphere of the world they built, I have no idea how they did it to be honest but I can't imagine another game coming close to this experience for a while :)

Going by their record on Steam, they discount 25% by 6 months, 50% by 12 months and 75% by 24 months, and up to 83% on a good day. There is almost always a determinative pattern to how these companies discount their titles. Sekiro is the exception, but it is because it was co-published with Activision to be distributed globally.

Bandai Namco published Dark Souls and Elden Ring.

Not really, I've posted on that in this thread it is was a year or more before they even did a 10 or 20 % discount. All you play isn't steam either.

...here we go

Maybe you didn't read the part where I said Sekiro is the exception, which had Activision as its publisher. My post merely serves as an indicator to those who are willing to wait, though it isn't guaranteed. Hell, Rimworld's creator said that their game will NEVER be discounted, and yet it is now.

/snip

I'm sure there's going to be plenty of people raging about nerfs in a single player game where most people don't care about pvp.

And here I was thinking of getting the game as it seemed there was an easier (i.e. normal) way to play it....

There still is for me at least. I'm just not going to go online until I finish my playthrough. That way I can avoid the nerf to my weapon (30% damage nerf). If I go online my +10 weapon effectively does the same damage as the old +5 weapon.

No man, the player messages are half the experience :D !

ER gives you more ways to overcome challenges than their previous games, but it is still is a souls type game at heart, and I'm afraid to say if you didn't particularly like the old ones you might not like this one either.

I doubt exploiting an OP build is going to make you enjoy the title if you would not have before.

I will say however there are MANY other OP PvE builds that can still be exploited if you must and which are likely not going to be nerfed due to their lack of utility in PvP (e.g. skills/weapons with a long/obvious wind up)

While on the subject of difficulty
Miq's Haligtree and Farum Azula

Finally started Elden Ring. Looking good so far but not much progress just yet.

I got a horse but the mofo just disappeared.

So it became pretty apparent I was in the final area of the game so I went back and made sure I hadn't missed anything too interesting and ticked off a few achievements.

After that I went back to where I was and fought the final 3 boss battles, all of which are spaced pretty close together.

The first 2 were pretty simple but the 2nd phase of the 3rd and final boss...probably the most disappointing part of the game. It's not hard in a traditional sense. It's annoying and its attacks are cheap and many unavoidable. Painful for a melee build especially. I'd considered summoning human help for one, but alas every time I tried to summon I got an error message.

Eventually, after at least 30 tries I'd figured out a combo of spirit summon (no not Mimic) weapon and strat that allowed me to take it out. Didn't really feel like much of an achievement though, just relief.

Would have been great if this game had the traditional co-op instead of "the system". Nontheless, still having fun with the SO and just ****ing around while being invaded from time to time.

Only a few things about the game bothers me at times:

- where to go next. Never knowing if the area I am in should be done now or later. Sometimes it's obvious as the enemies are much tougher but not always. I eventually just checked online to see which zone to go to next: https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Game+Progress+Route

- not knowing which NPC's to speak to in which order. Always afraid of missing quests/bosses/items. There should be an NPC quest summary telling who you've spoken to, what they need, and where they want you to go. Don't need one for the main quest as you'll eventually get there by just exploring and killing everything. But the NPC ones can be missed or screwed up.
