Electric Pressure Cooker Recipes

Used a pressure cooker for the first time on Monday to cook Bean soup (Boontjie sop) and flippen hell did it come out good, quick and easy

On Saturday for lunch I made the pressureluckcooking beef stroganof.

Ai, but that guy has mastered the art of the electric pressure cooker. To say it was phucking delicious would be the understatement of the weekend. I got a "dad, you always make such nice food!" from my six year old

Having watched his pot roast video, that's the next on the to-try list. My MIL make a really good pot roast in the pressure cooker but I think this recipe will put me ahead in the cooking stakes.

So far I have only cooked stamp mielies with my pressure cooker...absolutely delicious :)

I have noticed that as of late my wife cooks any and everything in the pressure cooker - even rice. I'm not complaining, but it defeats the purpose for us having put in a gas hob.

My favourite toy is the slow cooker. Just dump a bunch of things into it in the morning and when I get home from work, supper is ready

This is happening in my house today. Gotta say I'm pretty excited to smash it into my face later today. Jeff seldom gets it wrong.

BF phoned me yesterday and asked if I can please bring the pressure cooker when I come over. I get there and see he bought lamb shanks. He browned it a bit with red onions and garlic and then he put it on slow cooker function for 2 hours with canned tomatoes and red wine just before we left for gym class. When we got back, released pressure and had a look. Looked great, but put in some veg and a small cabbage and pressure cooked for 15 minutes. Then took out the cabbage and meat and reduced the sauce to thicken it up a bit. the meat was so soft and fall off the bone we ate it out of a bowl with spoons.

The BF has been making all the food lately. I think I am going to try and make him some Oxtail this weekend.

Where do you buy Oxtail? Do places like Spar etc sell it readily or is it something you have to ask for at a butchery?

You should find it readily available. Don't discount Woolies, either. Last year I found it at my local WW for R129/kg whereas my local butcher was R150/kg. Also the quality at WW was tops.

Stay away from the oxtail at Food Lovers. The first time I bought there (which was also the last time I bought there) I unpacked the meat only to find that they had layered the bottom of the packaging with bones to obviously increase the weight. Crooks.

My local Makro sometimes has specials on the Oxtail @ R110 P/Kg - bought a couple of times and have to say it was pretty good quality. Just trim some fat before cooking if you find it too fatty.

I usually get it at PnP

Damn....I forgot to take pics.....but it came out beautifully. So soft and juicy and yes ... it was a bit fatty .... but for me that makes it even better.

@Ockie What you think of this pressure cooker at the price? R629.40. Worth it? Your recipes are killing me here :laugh::ROFL::laugh:

I purchased the same last week (Russell Hobbs RHEP7) when it was on takealot for R900 and there was a R150 voucher in these forums. Was wondering if it was should have gotten a Midea Multichef instead as it had functions for
Fry, stew, meat, fish, rice, bread, pasta, vegetables, slow cook, yogurt, desserts, bake and cake options
of which the Bake and cake options makes it versatile to experiment with.

OTOH looking inside most of these they seem to be a little more than a sealed pot on an electric element with electronic functions to control time and temperature profiles, and sensors that will additionally keep it safe.

Back to my RHEP7 I don't quite understand operating the saute function. The manual does warn that the buttons will be inactive if the lid is not closed. Perhaps on suate it will work anyway and the lid does not need be be closed? I have not attempted to operate it that way yet. Maybe someone can confirm?

The saute function will indeed work with the lid off.
