Electric shaver

Interesting. I have very thick stubble and my Braun does give a pretty close shave, obviously not like a razor but pretty darn close.

Do you know if you have to replace the head or any other parts after a period of time?

I think you are supposed to replace the blades every 2 years. I haven't bothered replacing mine yet, it was crap from the first time.

Your's is probably a foil-type razor, whereas mine has rotary blades. I should probably try a foil-type shaver next. I think different skin/hair types respond better to different shaver types.

The big problem with mine is that it doesn't catch the hair on my neck (perhaps because the hair grows parallel to the skin), so I end up having to go over it several times. By the time I'm done, my neck is covered in blood and too sensitive to touch, and it stays like that for at least 24 hours. I really wouldn't recommend the experience to anyone.

If I had to judge the razor based on the way it works on my face, I would have no problem recommending it. It provides a very close shave (not perfect though). It's quick and easy and there is no discomfort at all. It's just a pity that on my neck it's completely different.

I have a ~R2,000 Philips electric razor. It was the top of the line one when I got it a few years ago. It's crap, I've used it twice in the last 18 months. It leaves me with horribly sensitive skin, especially on the neck. It does a pretty good job on the face, but it doesn't give anything close to a clean shave on my neck.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Perhaps it works well if you have very light hair growth. Like a girl.

Yeah I think they all work very well on the face cos thats a simple area but on the neck I find them useless. I often use mine to keep the stubble at bay for a little until I have to use razors to get it all neat and tidy again.

Im seriously thinking of getting a electric shaver... Im currently use a Gillete Mach 4 blade, and it works very well, but such a mission.... especially now that I have a bird that insists on smooth 9/10. Cant really argue there to be honest, as I also like smooth... legs, etc etc. (dont think many men prefer a hairy bird! LOL )

So I dont quite have the budget of what you guys are on here... So what would I be able to get for about the R1000 price range? Anything half decent?

I dont have hectic facial hair, quite lucky in that regard.

Well I was looking at this one: http://www.kalahari.net/appliances/Philips-Shaver-HQ8250/42752/34726583.aspx

I am sure it is pretty decent.

Dischem sells the Braun.

Foil shavers are better than rotary shavers.

I am very happy with my Panasonic, the only time I have to cover the same spot on my face more than once is if I haven't shaved for three days.

I've been using the Braun foil shavers for many years now, and my previous model (Syncho) got a new lease on life when Braun went to Gillette foils and I bought one of these for the old Synchro - the new Gillette foils have a random "daisy" style pattern, whereas the original foil was uniform.

After using the 7 series (pulsonic) for some time now, I can say that it gives the best shave out all the models I've used, but because I travel loads, I don't take the liquid cleaning stuff, but here comes the problem, the 7 series cutter head doesn't disassemble making it very difficult to clean manually with a brush, and the cutter heads are damn expensive.
