."In its latest System Adequacy Outlook issued on January 14, energy regulator Nersa stated that electricity demand in South Africa was 4.78% lower in 2014 than in 2007."
:erm::wtf:
As I've stated, Eskom had already announced last Friday (System Status #314) that demand would outstrip supply on Mon - Wed this week. Therefore they had planned for loadshedding last week already.
I don't know why there's sudden hand-wringing on Monday when the planned load-shedding actually takes place as they themselves predicted publicly.
Eskom had also already announced last week that 10 707 was out of commission (as of last Thursday), so the article is not helpful in saying 'The utility’s unplanned outages increased to a shocking 10 515 MW on Monday'.

Just a bit of blackmail to get the R3Bn from Treasury?
How long did the new CEO wait before announcing loadshedding? After reading up on him, he seems like just another puppet for number 1's agenda...Yeah, I do sometimes wonder whether it's possible for a company to be this inept or if Eskom are pulling an Enron to push up prices and get more money from treasury, but then I have to think about what's in it for the executives? Will they get massive bonuses for "fixing" the current situation and making huge profits once the bring the base load power stations back online?
