Electricity increase above given rate.

Damn I'm starting to feel better about city of Jhb......
.but still it's a killer.

I am a city of Jhb power user.
I would previously buy R2000 worth and get 1235 units. Now I got 1037 for R2000 that's a 19% increase.
On residential prepaid.
Its an absolute cluster fck and free for all. NERSA is a typical government instution that plays ZERO role in enforcing electricity tariffs. Because of this both municipalities and private landlords countrywide are taking the absolute piss when it comes to electricity tariffs and making MASSIVE profits off consumers.

Tariffs for 2019-2020 are not even published on the NERSA website yet. Hell the website is down most days anyway!

That's illegal, they cannot take a cut.
It's not a cut it's an admin or service fee.

Citiq does the same for my sub meters, there's a choice for either landlord or tenant to pay it

Just did the calc now Jhb city say 13% increase as per Nersa because of the tariff band changes it equals 19% for the first 3000 kWh.

You're forgetting that most of the time the people who would use the higher tiers and have a house valued at over R350 000 or earn more then R2500 would be milked as much as possible, so we don't count into the calculations.
As City Power would tell you, but look the first band is only 11% higher, so that makes it less then 13%.
Also postpaid only got a 13% increase so they'll point at that as well.

It's an AVERAGE of 13% across all Eskom and municipal tariff bands. That is the regulation. Doesn't mean they can't price gouge the "affluent".

People seem to miss that word "average".

Where does it say average? There is no average
https://businesstech.co.za/news/gov...icity-price-hikes-come-into-effect-on-monday/

According to the city’s 2019/2020 tariff reports, some of the most notable increases include:

A 9.9% increase in the cost of water;
A 5.5% increase in property rates;
A 13.07% increase in electricity;
A 7% increase in refuse removal (solid waste).

Where's the word average?

Actually Eskom would only be 9%, the muncipal rate would be 13.07% because of the additional bit they need. But they never mention average they say there will be a 13% increase.

probably 13% increase on all the little charges they add in individually can add up to a total 19% increase
Probably and they of course go, but look it's only 13% average. Like when Coke increases the price of the can by 5% but drops the size of the can 10% they'll say but we only increased the price by 5%.
On average.
