Cape Town residents can expect to pay, on average, 11 percent more for domestic electricity from July, the city said on Wednesday.

The increases would depend on whether the resident fell under the domestic tariff profile or the lifeline tariff profile.

To qualify for lifeline tariffs, households would have to use less than 450 kilowatt hours (kWh) a month.

The household would then get 50kWh of its first 150kWh a mon

Ok - I'm confused - does this mean my electricity rate is not going to be increased? :confused:

Residents who fell under the Eskom distribution areas, for example parts of Table View, Durbanville, and Khayelitsha, would not be affected by the increase

Try phoning them, they might be able to tell whether you're buying Eskom or CoCT.
 
Ridiculous, I buy a R100 voucher every few days, and I live in a flat, where is it going to end.

We are two people living in a flat and we buy around R200-R300 a month. By every couple of days do you mean once a week?

:erm: didn't Eskom increase their rates in April, so in-effect, Eskom users were affected first.

Depends on whether or not you get electricity from CT or from Eskom.

For example if you are on one of those prepaid meters you get it straight from Eskom so you won't see the increase.

Like every 4 or 5 days, I buy about R500-R600 a month.

I don't understand. :confused: I thought all electricity was from Eskom.

How does one find out which areas in cape town wont be affected by the increase??

I mean, if Durbanville wont be affected, why will Bellville be? :confused:

Either:
Eskom -> Client
or
Eskom -> Municipality -> Client

There was that issue up North where people where paying the Municipality, but the municipality wasn't paying Eskom - so Eskom was threatening to turn users off....

fortunately, that can't happen if you pay Eskom directly?
