Electricity price lies

There are lies being told on the electricity issue in South Africa and Eskom is discriminating on price and pushing consumer electricity prices in South Africa into the top half of charges worldwide, according to a leading economist.

Everyone knows that loadshedding is just Eskom blackmail tactics.

What B*stards!! Lets hope that the 34% increase does not go through! Its not our fault they are useless!

This is going to change...

Solar heating will make a dent in electricity sales - and profits to municipalities.

Add the advances made in Photovoltaics, as well as batteries, and soon it will become profitable to have solar panels rather than to buy from the grid.

Add the advances made in energy efficient lighting..

Add the advances made make appliances more energy efficient...

Higher electricity prices and technological advances will main the goose that lays the golden eggs for municipalities.

The data is from a few years ago but the differences are still drastic.

Eskom does not deserve a 34% increase. I doubt it will get it but it will still get a increase it will just be a little less.

Load Shedding was not an eskom blackmailling tactic. But it is unlikely it will occur again since there have been numerous mines and independent companies that used to run smelters that have now gone offline due to the financial climate. These smelters were/are used to melt raw materials (gold/metals) they use about the equivalent of half of pretoria to operate. Load shedding will probably not take place again for a while but it will be back once again.

South Africa has some of the Cheapest electricity in the world.

*No flaming please I have no love for eskom but these are just some facts that I know

In Cape Town, the Council electricity meter readers don't come anymore and they estimate a high figure for months. Then when you try and ring them, they say "wrong day to ring, call next week".

I think Eskom's pricing model need to be reviewed.

Industry and Internationals should be paying more than the Residential consumers ESPECIALLY for the fact that not all residential consumers can afford electricity and need the government to "sponsor" them.

Basically, people who can afford to pay, need to pay (and they're usually the big electricity consumers anyway - ala Industry)

People who can't afford to pay (or barely pay, ala Residential) should be given a break

Government also needs to realize that having Coal or Nuclear power is NOT the answer, and subsidising a mediocare solar panel GEYSER is not enough. They should drop and/or invest in solar panels and/or give people insentive to put up solar panels and have a feedback scheme like most countries do

Did you know, in Germany, it's more profitable for someone to buy a farm and put up solar panels and "farm" solar energy to put back into the grid than it is to actually work the ground and plant plants/grow animals/sell them?

Why cant we get discount electricity at night ?

That table in the wiki is an over simplification. there are multiple tarifs. I pay R0.56 /kwh. Medium sided users in Cape town pay R0.21/kwh. What does hillside smelter pay ?

Why should the big user pay less than 1/2 ?? Why ??

Eastern Europe have had time of day tarif meters in households for years. Why cant we also get cheaper elec after 22:00 .. Why ??

Bastards!
They are evil.
Everybody needs electricity and what more can one do to save it.
My apartment's fitted with energy saving bulbs yet my bill is still sky high!
I dare not switch on a heater even though i freeze my a$$ off.
They can rot in hell!

F***in Hell No!
Where do I sign up for the ANC affiliated anti-Eishkom union? It seems you only ever get anywhere if you belong to some freekin union!

So who's the lone fool that thinks Eskom has our interests at heart?
